I'm running Windows XP on a laptop, and have just started burning some dual layer disks. I have screen saver set to 97 minutes before coming on; yet it activates in about 25, for some reason. Because I'm burning dual layers and my max speed is 2.4 it's a problem. I'm pretty sure this is why I've created 2 coasters recently. I walk away from it, come back, my laptop has gone screensaver or standby, and I've got a weird error (burning with Decrytor) and can't get it to resume. I looked to turn off screen saver and that's not an option; it may not even be screensaver, but hibernate?? Any help appreciated.

look under control panel --> there has to be energy options. turn them all off... and you can't disable your screensaver? weird...
wich burning sowftware do you use? nero? AFAIK nero automatically blocks the screensaver...

I have Nero and use it for data; in this case, though I've been burning with decrypter. Is Burning with Nero just as good, for an ISO?

Rt-click an open area of your desktop and choose "Properties". Under the Screensaver tab, the first option is "None". From that same "Display Properties" dialogue box, click on the "Power" button in the lower right. There, you can set the power scheme for your monitor and hard discs, as well as the settings for hibernation and standby modes.

With the laptop there will be two power schemes, one for battery, one for AC power. Concentrate on the AC power settings, disabling everything except hard drive power down. That won't be a problem when you're encoding, since it'll stay very active until the encode is done. From what you've described the computer may be hibernating.

if you leave the harddisk to turn off they will, that will interup the encode also, inactivity means no user input, atleast thats what I've notice with my persario anyways

I've never had a PC or laptop spin down a hard drive if there was any activity at all, whether writing or user input, but that can certainly be turned off as well if it's a problem. Given the cost of a laptop hard drive and the heat generated with it spinning 24/7, I'd prefer to have it off whenever possible.

Thanks all... especially Ammck55; looks like it was system standby, which I have changed from 25 mins. to 45 mins.
