I have encoded a DVD with Magix Movie edit Pro DVD. It plays well in my PC and in other PCs, but not in all DVD set top players: In some it plays perfectly, in others the sound stutters with a perfect picuture and in others the disc is not even recognised! I have tried burning the project to different makes of DVD, but there is no change, so it appears that problem is with encoding by Magix itself. Is there any meand of making this DVD play in all se top players? I owould be very grateful for any help.
Cheers :confused:

If it were in the encoding process it would stutter the same regardless of where it was played. You will never burn a DVD that will play in all set-top players, but you'll improve compatibility by reducing burn speed - never exceed half of what the media and drive are rated for. Some set-top players simply cannot read burned disks, some only +R or -R.

@doggerfisher
If your burner has "bitsetting" ability, you can theoretically make your burned DVD+R media more universally playable by "setting the bit", so that your burned DVD+R (This does NOT work with DVD-R media) is interpreted by the player(s) as being a DVD-ROM (pressed commercial disc) rather than a burned DVD+R.
ALL standalone DVD players with the "DVD" logo MUST be capable of playing DVD-ROMs...

hi doggerfisher and welcome to the forum!
the possibilities of media and burning not withstanding, personally i believe the problem may be in the encoding/authoring package you are using, as indicated by this thread:
Double frames after encoding ? (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=99495&highlight=Magix+Movie+edit+Pro) which discusses the same software you are using, possibly producing non-compliant encodes.
you may also find these threads useful when tracking down problems of excessive bitrates and playback problems:
Mainconcept producing non-compliant MPEG2 streams? (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=92881&highlight=bitrate)
DVD plays fine on PC but jittery on set-top player (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=88833&highlight=bitrate)
another thought is that the encoder may be encoding to dvd spec's, however the authoring package may be causing errors.
a way to check this would be if you could output from Magix movie edit to elementary streams and use a freeware authoring program such as muxman, to see if that fixes your problems ... at the very least muxman will give you a log telling you if it encounters any problems with these streams.

Thanks to everybody for thier replies.
jel I have saved my film as a MPEG2 file and used pinncale to creat the DVD which played perfectly. I will try with Muxman to see if it finds any errors.
CWR03 I have tried reducing the spped to 1X , but unfortuantley this did not resolve this issue. I will try, setarip_old, you suggestion with the bitserring. I use Roxio Media Creator 7 and try and find this setting there. I ill keep you posted of the reuslts.
Cheers
