I've been talking to the author of ViPlay player and he told me that the new version of ViPlay may become Open Source because he can no longer maintain it...

GREAT NEWS! ViPlay3 is now in SourceForge!
Yes, as you read! the Rise of the Players "ViPlay3" is the new version of ViPlay, so far, it has been closed source, but now it has become opened source to achieve the greatness that only an Open Source Community can give to it!
We invite all programmers to participate in this project at https://sourceforge.net/projects/viplay3
enjoy!

Player looks nice. Just a pitty it can't play any files without giving multible errors.
Am I doing something wrong ?

Don't think so... I can't get Viplay3 to play any kind of file either, just get a access violation warning.
2.09 works great tho.

Software being opensourced does not guarantee you anything. First of all, there aren't many people who would be able to maintain AND improve such complex software (if there are any, they are probably working on something commercial - good so! talented people deserve to get paid well).
Second, I strongly believe in quality software and good project management - not just randomly adding a feature here and there and combining different programming styles without some sort of organization. More people working on the project does not necessarily mean higher quality.
