Hi,
Im using DVD Shrink's reauthoring mode to get select scenes from a few movies but when I load one of my DVD's in the DVD browser, the only titles it finds are the three trailers on the DVD. I dont have this problem with any of the other DVD's and if I watch the DVD on my computer using another program it works fine. Is there a setting that I might need to use on DVD Shrink that might be inhibiting from finding all the titles?
Thanks!

Did you open and view the contents of the "Extras" category (as well as the "Main" category)?

There is no extras category... it has "Menus" and "Main Movie" where the three trailers are but thats it.

What is the title and region of the DVD?
Is it a commercial, pressed DVD or "something else"?

Its a commercial store bought DVD. Region 1.

What is the title? And, if it has had more than one Region 1 version, it may be important to note the exact release (Example -- "Widescreen Edition," or "Collector's Edition," or "Special Edition") if this is applicable. Post this, and someone is likely to own the same disc, to try to compare and duplicate your experiences.
Thanks,

What is the total times that are listed for each of these three trailers?
I am wondering if this is just a case where one of those "trailers" is actually the main movie title, only the DVD was mastered in such a way that the movie is preceded by trailers, to try to force viewers to sit through them. Normally, even when this (awful) tactic is used, the trailers are still a separate component, but I suppose it is possible we have a new method of bad DVD construction practices going on here.
Again, what is the TITLE?
Thanks,
-Bruce

I dont have the DVD here at work but the title is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.. the original live action movie.. dont laugh :)
I dont know if there are any other Region 1 versions. The disk just says Region 1 from what I recall.
It does have the widescreen and fullscreen versions on the opposing sides of the DVD. But I did try both sides and had the same problem.
The times listed for the trailers are only a couple of minutes long and I skimmed through them to make sure there wasnt any movie footage and I didnt see any. Again I dont have the program or DVD here so I cant list the specific times.

Okay, is this the 1990 film which played in theaters? If so, there is apparently only one DVD release (Region 1) and it should be this one:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100758/dvd
See if that cover looks like yours. It is indeed a one-DVD release, and the widescreen version is on one side, and the pan and scan version is on the other.
If it is not, then I wonder if we are dealing with one of the sets which feature the television show. If that is the case, then I might expect some amount of weirdness, as I have seen a few of these which chose to put the various episodes so that they appeared to be "extras." And, there were a LOT of Teenage Mutant Minja television DVDs released, and most of them had either 5 episodes ona disc, or only 3 episodes on a disc.
However, you mentioned the "widescreen and pan and scan" on two sides of a flipper. That is usually only true for movies, and not for television shows from years gone by.
Anyway, let us know which it is...
Anyone else have the movie version of this DVD, that could run it through a quick analysis, to compare notes?

to get select scenes from a few movies
In view of your stated purpose, try the following instead:
1) Use DVD Decrypter (In "File" mode, select "ALL files", NOT "movie files") to rip the entire DVD to your hard drive
2) Use MPEG2Cut or ChopperXP, or similar to find and save the scenes you want from the .VOBs

Thats a good idea. I will try that.

All right... I used DVD Decrypter and ripped the main movie files to my harddrive and when I access that directory in DVD Shrink it doesnt find any titles.
Using windows explorer, here are the files listed in the directory I ripped it to just in case you notice anything vital that isnt there.
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_02_0.IFO

Based on what you previously stated about the LACK of true movie files, I suggested that you use DVD Decrypter (In "File" mode, select "ALL files", NOT "movie files") to rip the entire DVD to your hard drive...
And then simply load one of the .VOBs into MPEG2Cut or ChopperXP and pick out your clips...

Sorry, I have a couple more questions...
My ultimate plan was to use DVD Shrink's reauthoring mode to take the new titles I created (the movie scenes) and put them onto a new DVD.
I used MPEG2Cut to get the clip I wanted from the Turtles movie (I saved it as both a vob and an mpg file) but how would I go about getting it into a format that DVD Shrink would recognize? Or is there a better way to go about it besides the reauthoring feature on DVD Shrink?
I tried looking to the guides for help but Im not entirely sure I know what I am looking for in order to accomplish this and I didnt see any on MPEG2cut.
Thanks for your patience with me on this!

It would be far simpler to use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (Different than "TMPGEnc" and "TMPGEncPlus"). You can obtain a FULLY functional free 30 day trial version of this commercial program at:

I looks like the program is working with all the titles though I had some trouble getting the non DVD files into an acceptable format. I will tackle that another day though.
My question now is since each clip differs in aspect ratio and sometimes in sound quality (stereo vs mono) I have to put each clip on a different track. I know these are different than chapters but I can still have the DVD play all the tracks one after the other correct? And will I be able to skip tracks as Im watching the DVD like I would with chapters?

You may want to convert those mono tracks to stereo, as MANY standalone DVD players will not playback monaural tracks.
but I can still have the DVD play all the tracks one after the other correct?
Yes
And will I be able to skip tracks as Im watching the DVD like I would with chapters?
Yes, by either using your remote to select a different title (usually a subset of the "Display" button) or by going back to the menu...
