Hello,
I'm trying to backup a dvd to xvid using dvd2avi, virtualdubmod and bsweet.
I completed the video and it looks great, using dvd2avi, avisynth and virtualdubmod. When I saved the project with dvd2avi it created an ac3 audio file. I can mux this with the xvid video and it plays fine, but that adds about 400MB to the file. So I want to convert the ac3 to mp3 to save space. The problem is that when I try using bsweet through the gui the resulting mp3 sounds like someones talking through glass, very muffled with no highs, absolutly unusable. Here is the log:
"C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\BeSweet\BeSweet.exe" -core( -input "m:\BRIDGET_JONES\VIDEO_TS\bj AC3 T01 3_2ch 448Kbps DELAY 0ms.ac3" -output "m:\BRIDGET_JONES\VIDEO_TS\bj AC3 T01 3_2ch 448Kbps DELAY 0ms.mp3" -logfilea "G:\Backup\Program_Download\Appz\Dvd_Tools\Audio Tools\BeSweet.log" ) -azid( -c normal -g 0.95 -L -3db ) -ota( -g peak ) -lame( --scale 1 -p --resample 44.1 --alt-preset 192 )
I'm going to try ripping a different dvd just to eliminate any possible errors there.
Nope, different dvd, same result very muffled sound like talking through a pillow.

Hi!
I can mux this with the xvid video and it plays fine
Do you get a better result if you load this multiplexed .AVI directly into VirtualDubMOD and (after setting "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy")?:
1) Click on the "Streams" dropdown menu and click on "Stream list"
2) Rightclick on the .AC3 audiostream and select "Full Processing Mode"
3) Select "Compression"
4) Select the .MP3 settings you desire
5) Save with a new filename

My recommeded settings wit with beSweet 1.5b31 :
-azid( -s dpl -c normal -L -3db ) -ota( -hybridgain ) -lame( -b 192 )
Comments:
-s dpl : default, you can use also dlpii or stereo.
-g 0.95 : why this light attenuation?
-hybridgain : for me the better method to maximize the output.
-b 192 : always CBR to mux with VirtualDub/Mod
--scale 1 : do nothing
-p : not necessary
--resample 44.1 : not recommended, preserve 48 KHz.

If you must resample to 44.1, you'd probably be better off using SSRC. BeLight also might make your life a lot easier.

i tried the preset profile of mp3 for avi in besweet gui. It had the same result, the sound muffled like it is putting some type of lowpass filter on it.
I downloaded headac3he and loaded the ac3 file into it and it worked, sounded great.
What's weird I ripped bridget jones with dvddecrypter, loaded the vob's into dvd2avi and selected dmux for audio. When I load the resulting demuxed ac3 file into headac3he or besweet it gives CRC errors. How could it be bad off the orginal disc? I tried dvd2avi 1.76 and 1.77. I have tried this process twice with same result. I did the same with maid in manhatten and it is fine with headac3he but muffled in besweet.
I would rather use besweet with GUI. Could someone walk me through from ripping a dvd to mp3. I got the video part fine using xvid. Just need to get from ac3 to mp3.

Ok, I started over, ripped dvd with dvddecrypter, loaded vob's into dvd2avi and selected demux audio, loaded the resulting ac3 file into belight, selected the mp3>movie preset and hit start. The result, muffled audio, not just a little off either, I can't even make the words out. Is there some kind of codec setting I might have screwed up?

I use DGIndex 1.4.4 RC1 instead DVD2AVI, but if your ac3 sounds OK and with headac3he works fine, I think isn't the problem.
I use BeLight-0.22b8_P4.exe, with Movie preset (and mp3 CBR 192) I have:
BeSweet v1.5b31 by DSPguru.
--------------------------
Using azid.dll v1.9 (b922) by Midas (midas@egon.gyaloglo.hu).
Using lame_enc.dll v1.32 (12/9/2005), Engine 3.97 <http://www.mp3dev.org/>.
BeSweet.exe -core( -input D:\...\pruebaOK.ac3 -output D:\...\pruebaOK.mp3
-logfile D:\...\pruebaOK.log )
-azid( -s dplii -c light -L -3db ) -ota( -hybridgain ) -lame( -b 192 )
Check the versions with your soft, but for this transcode (ac3 -> mp3 CBR) must work with old version of BeSweet or Lame_enc.
Headac3he and BeLight works with azid.dll and lame_enc.dll and the results can't differ very much. Check the DRC and Downmix parameters:
About Dynamic Range Compression. You can use:
-c none -> Original Dynamic Range. Great difference between high volume sounds and low.
-c light -> The low sounds are light amplified
-c normal -> The low sounds are normal amplified (recommended)
-c heavy -> The low sounds are more amplified
For - none (and light) you need a good audio equipment to understand a whisper dialog and support a explosion without distort.
About Downmix method. To convert 5.1 ch (ac3) to 2 ch (mp3) you can use:
-s dpl -> Mix in 2 physical ch 4 logic ch (Dolby surround ProLogic)
-s dplii -> Mix in 2 physical ch 5 logic ch (DPL II)
-s stereo -> Don't use DPL
If you never play the movie with a audio equipment with DPL and 4-6 speakers, you can use "stereo"

I downloaded BeSweet v1.5b31 by DSPguru and noticed that the lame_enc.dll was in the directory. In my older version that installed with the svcd2dvd bundle it wasn't. It is in the system32 directory. When I used the newer version it worked fine, also when I copied the lame_enc.dll to the older bsweet directory it worked also. I wonder if I should delete the lame_enc.dll that's in the system32 directory?
Thanks for the info!
Also, I have one dvd, this maid in manhatten one, that it seems the ac3 file is screwed up. it gives crc errors and sync errors with anything I try to convert it with. It starts repeating everything after about 5min of play. It will play about 3seconds and repeat then go to the next 3 seconds. It does this with the ac3 file output from dvd2avi and the mp3 file after conversion. Is this some type of copy protection? I have ripped it 3 times, cleaned the disc etc all with the same result. I've tried two others and they seem to work fine. I will try one more to make sure.

This is the error I get when trying to convert the ac3 to mp3 from this one bridget jones disc. The disc plays fine but the demuxed file doesn't, it starts repeatiing in two to three second intervals and when I try to convert to mp3 with blight it the log is below. Btw, thanks for the info I downloaded a new version ov besweet and noticed the lame dll was in the directory. When I converted the other files i had with it the muffled audio problem was fixed.
This other disc is no big deal, I was just wondering if it was some type of copy protection since the dvd plays fine and the demuxed file doesn't.
this is some of the log, it goes on the same:
