Hello,

I am new to this whole video thing and let me say that I am impressed at all the work many people have done to bring the tools such as D2S to end user community. So, many thanks to all of you.

Mainly, I am trying to convert Divx type video files to SVCD format so that I can burn them to disc. So, I installed D2S with "Avi2svcd" option. I am having some issues and would like some of your "professional" support to resolve them.

1) I am wondering if there is anyway to select a "frame range" in D2S when converting .avi files (i.e. to cut titles and end portions etc.)?

2) I encoded and burned (using CCE in D2S) a video file to SVCD. When I play it in my stand alone DVD player, It feels like video is sticking... meaning it plays, audio is fine but the video plays few frames, and a very small pause at a certain frame and resumes play back... it's almost like you don't notice the pause, yet, you do notice it if you watch for a few seconds. It keeps doing this through out the whole movie. I am not sure why this is happening. any thoughts?

3) Regarding question 2, I am thinking it might be bitrate thing...which leads me to this question. See, I want to fit the whole file into one disc. So, in the BITRATE tab, I set the first CD (800) to "0 - 102mins".. since the file plays for 1h:41m:20sec. What bitrate should I use for MAX, MIN, [and should I select Min AVG??? if so how much] and MAX AVG? I am picky about quality so, I use Q 20 in CCE ... (if this is any relevant)... Or, should I just stick with default Bitrates and just change the CD settings (i.e. 0-102mins)?

And, I just started to use the AutoFitCD... first impressions are good.

Maybe, I am sounding like I want it all...and maybe I do... :-) but, what I would like to have is to be able to convert a video file with the portion (i.e. frame range selection) and encode it with good quality and fit it to a single SVCD disc (80min CD). What could you suggest to achieve this?

Thanks in Advance!

Patience is a virtue! Please bear in mind this forum is a volunteer effort and is not a technical support service. You are not guaranteed a solution, let alone one within 3 hours of posting the question!

As to the points you raised lets see.

1) No you cannot select a portion of AVI video to encode. If you wish to crop credits and suchlike, it is easily done in VDubMod. Set the mode to "Direct stream copy" in the video menu, then use "Set selection start" and "...end" in the Edit menu to select the frames you want to remove. Delete the selected frames and save the AVI again.

2) Not sure why this is happening. Can you play the SVCD on your PC with a software player? Do you still get the freezing problem? If not, it may be a peculiarity of your DVD player, or possibly it is having difficulty reading your CDRs. If the sticking also occurs on your PC, something is going wrong with the encode.

3) It is hugely unlikely that you will be able to get such long files onto one disc with anything like presentable quality. The best thing to try is KISS filtering. It involves editing the avisynth script for video encoding and adding Undot and Deen to the script. If you have installed D2SRoBa, the plugins should be present. See this thread.
