I'm trying to make some mp4s for my psp in 480x272 but it just seems impossible!

First of all psp utilites, psp video 9,psp encode,3gp conerter, don't have presets for 480x272.

Then i tried YAMB and MP4Ui but even they can't do it.

With Yamb even though the log says mux completed no file is created. And in mp4ui when i import the 480x272 xvid it gives me an error: "not isma complitant, file length 333" something like that.

What's wrong?

As mp4UI was one of the first GUI based MP4 muxing tools, it's fair to say it requires some updating!

Given that your error message refers to "ISMA Compliance". Have you tried seeing what happens when you switch this option off?

You may need to close and open mp4UI a couple of times to make sure the option "is" off....

You're right that worked, thanx a lot! What is isma compatible anyway?

....What is isma compatible anyway?Well there's a question....... Which has been asked by forum members before.

Sufficed to say there's an official ISMA (Internet Streaming Media Alliance) organisation and even a web site you can visit over at: http://www.isma.tv/

Plus there are a few Doom9 forum threads on the subject. A couple of which can be found below: -

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=86058

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=91113

I must admit, I can't think of a reason for ISMA compliance. All my streaming tests in MP4 and MOV seem to work okay without it.... And it's certainly not necessary for use in software and hardware players ;)

Ok so theres no use for it,i see.

Although i created the 480x272 the psp recognizes it as an incomptible file.I ve also read some articles that the psp although it has a 480x272 screen display it doesn't support files in that res.

Since you seem to know things, can you think of a reason y this is happening, and any way around it?

I don't have a PSP (and have no desire to buy one).... so you'll have to search for the information you require in some of the PSP threads on the forum.

the reason is that sony made the player with this limitation :D
no way to use 480x272, the max is 76800 pixels (for example you can use 320x240, 368x208, 480x160 ecc...)

Damn it,so there is no way around it?There's this homebrew though that allows avi wmv and stuff and has support for 480x272 but the playback is jerky.

Also what with all conversion tools having as option 15 and 29.97 fps?

Is there a limitation in fps too? Can't 23.97 and 25 be used?

yes

Jonny sorry man,i have two more questions more:

A)Why is there a limitation in fps,and what limitation is there?

B)Also what's the difference between changefps and convert fps, cause i have lots of videos in fps other than 29.97 and i want to convert them without having audio-video sync problems.

P.s.Yep i am talking about pmp,do you know if there is some progress with that?

A)Why is there a limitation in fps

ask sony :D

and what limitation is there?

video goes always at 29.97 (for example if you encode at 24-25 fps)

B)Also what's the difference between changefps and convert fps, cause i have lots of videos in fps other than 29.97 and i want to convert them without having audio-video sync problems.

ChangeFPS:

ChangeFPS changes the frame rate by deleting or duplicating frames.

ConvertFPS:

The filter attempts to convert the frame rate of clip without dropping or inserting frames, providing a smooth conversion with results similar to those of standalone converter boxes.
It will blend adjacent video frames, weighted by a blend factor proportional to the frames' relative timing.

(- from AviSynth docs -)

P.s.Yep i am talking about pmp,do you know if there is some progress with that?

you can check for progress at http://forums.ps2dev.org
( http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?t=3571 seems the thread )

So convert fps is better then, right?Oh and one more thing. Is it just me or does psp only support sp and not asp profile? If it supports avc how come it doesn't support asp?

thanx a lot for your help i really appreciate it.

ConvertFPS is smooth but there is some ghosting effect (and also the compressibility decrease)
ChangeFPS can give a stuttering effect

i like ConvertFPS for movies and ChangeFPS for CG and animations

psp supports mpeg4 sp and mpeg4 avc (with fw 2.0+) ... again, it's a sony decision (because, if it decodes avc it should have the power to decode asp too)

What do you mean? That if i have an mp4 encode at 25 the psp will handle it like it was 29.97fps.How can it do that?

Also do you know if there is a way to boost volume using 3gp converter?

i've got this test some time ago, iirc yes

Also do you know if there is a way to boost volume using 3gp converter?

You can try in this way:

3GP Converter store settings in "default_setting" folder.

You should open, with a text editor, "Transcoding_PSP.ini" and "Transcoding_PSP_Direct.ini".

After this you should modify all the lines starting with:

Command0=""<%AppPath%>\cores\ffmpeg" -y -i "<%InputFile%>" -title "<%Title%>"

adding the -vol option:

Command0=""<%AppPath%>\cores\ffmpeg" -y -i "<%InputFile%>" -vol 500 -title "<%Title%>"

after this run again Setup.exe, so the main profile gets updated.
500 is an example, you should do some experiments

PS: for 3GP Converter 0.31 -vol 100 indicate no changes in the volume
For the latest test version the base, indicating no volume changes, is -vol 256

i use mediacoder 0.6.0 it can encode files at 480x272 resolution (AVC format) which can be played on PSP's with custom firmwares like 3.40 OE-A . quality is damm good, videos with 320x240 resoution really look bad now to me..after i watched 480x272 resolution vid on my PSP.
