View Full Version : Xvid won't play on my DVD

Hey,
I have a DVD which is able to play DivX and XviD files (tested many times). Recently, I have encountered several XviD files which my DVD was unable to play.
At first I thought it was because the bitrate it too high, as it was 1887 kbps, so I recompressed it using VirtualDubMod into a XviD 860 and 1000 kbps to no avail.
My DVD is able to play XviD with much higher bitrate (1100 e.g.) I tested it myself.

Does anyone have any suggestion where to look for an answer? things to try?

Hi!

1) What is the make and model of your player?

2) Does it play XviD's that use "QPEL" (Many don't)?

What does your bit-rate have to do with anything.. :confused:

Recompressed it? Comical.

Some standalone players have an issue with high bitrates and may cause stuttered playback. XviD and DivX uses variable bitrate encoding, and for the above said players when the bitrate spikes in certain scenes, the playback will be jerky. But this doesn't mean that the files won't play at all. So bitrate probably isn't the culprit here.

@Booooom, How do you expect anyone to help when you haven't even mentioned the make of your DVD player? Anyway, take the brand name and number and search the forums and Google and you might get some help. You sure it isn't a QPEL/GMC issue? Use GSpot to check it.

Next time, make your own AVIs to start with rather than "encountering" them here and there.

The resolution of the file was 960x??? which is the reason that it won't play since most current players support a max resolution of 720x576.

I'm curious to know where in the post by "Boooom" you were able to infer a resolution of "960x"?

They posted the same question at several forums. I guessed that it was oversized since if you re-encode to a lower bitrate it will still be oversized whilst most other potential problems would be removed. They confirmed that it was 960x584 or similar. Guess since they got the answer elsewhere they haven't been back to check on this one.
