Very ocasionaly when I attempt to edit a file derived from SBS TV Sydney (from memory the files have been in excess of 4 gigs) I have the following problem and I'm not sure if it is any of the above editing programs or SBS TV transmission:-

Transfer .rec file from Topfield PVRt5000 to computer using Altair with no problems.

Demux in ProjectX - goes through without any odd errors reported.

Import into either VideoRedo or Womble and the following error occurs regardless of program used.

When the file is imported onto the timeline and one scrolls to the end of file it appears that only half the file is present, however if you drag the file into the preview pane you can play the entire film okay!

If you run the 'fix' tool in either program the error remains.

The same phenomena occurs if you import the original .REC file into either programs.

My computer is XP SP2 with all updates and NTFS file system with 1 gig of memory.

Call me paranoid but as I really wanted this movie I simultaneously recorded it on my computer using my FusionHDTV Tuner card tuned to SBS TV (it was standard definition). This card produces either a mpeg program file directly or a transport stream. I chose TS.
Well the same error occured on the FusionHDTV version... So methinks there is something rotten in the state of SBS TV from time to time?

Finally I came up with a work around (solution applies to both VideoRedo and Womble so I will write only about Womble).

After Demuxing in ProjectX if you Remux in Womble using the tools menu the resulting mpeg file is okay and can be edited just like any other.

As an experiment I imported the .REC file into the Womble Demux tool, went through the process and this time I was able to do my preferred option of double system editing in Womble.

I am wondering if there is a 'special case' option in ProjectX to get around this oddity? or just write an addendum to my editing notes "when editing SBS TV programs do this...." :D

SBS delivers a state based transmission, so I can't speak directly about your recordings, but I can say that anything I have recorded from SBS in Queensland regardless of file size has had no problem like you have experienced. I run the recording through project-x and then cuttermaran without problem.

Thanks - as I said it is only an occasional problem and it's always been a movie - last time it happened apart from this time was over 6 months ago.
I normally use ProjectX and then Womble without any problems. My guess is it's
a memory or file size problem associated with? and that's the mystery
