View Full Version : Playback audio in wrong language or directors commentary always on

This is my first post. As a newbie to this I have had some problems getting a few foreign films to work correctly with the playback audio and subtitles. I have had problems with two movies so far: Run Lola Run and Amelie.
With Lola, my DVD copy will not play in German audio. It plays in English with English subtitles. I want to be able to play it in German or English with English subtitles as an option. Any ideas?
With Amelie - The director's commentary plays with the movie even when deselected.
Any thoughts on either of these?
Thanks!
Aaron

Hi!
Are your difficulties with the original, commercial DVDs, or copies that you've made?
If they're copies you've made, please provide the details of how you created them...

Hi!
The challenges are with the copies. I opened and saved to hard disk with DVD Shrink 3.2. I then burned the DVD with DVD Shrink 3.2 and Nero. I always select entire movie for burning (unless it is too large - neither of these two were to large). I always leave the other settings as their defaults. I have been successful with every other movie I have burned, but not these two.
I apologize if I am not giving enough detail. I am new to this. Thanks. Aaron

When viewing the DVDs on your standalone DVD player, Have you tried using the DVD's onscreen menu or your remote to select a different audiostream and/or subtitles?

Yes. I select the combination I want and it still plays in English for Lola and I select no director's commentary for Amelie and it still plays with directors' commentary.

If that's the case, you must have DEselected some audiostreams when using DVD Shrink...

Why not go back to square #1 and see what your Shrink .ISO file looks, and sounds, like? Mount the .ISO file in Daemon and see if you can manipulate the audio streams/subtitles with your software player's controls. If you can manipulate your file in the software player to suit your needs, look to your standalone's controls for the problem. You might try playing the disc on a friend's standalone.
I believe setarip_old is asking if you accidentally disabled any of your audio streams/subs in Shrink's "Reauthor" mode.

My question was not limited to "Re-author" mode only - You can disable audiostreams in "Full Disc Copy" mode as well...

Quite right, you are. I'm so locked in to running Shrink in Re-author mode that I haven't done a Full Disc copy for months. :)
