I am currently trying convert an NTSC Xvid to PAL, then convert to DVD. I have manged to change the framerate and alter the audio just fine. The problem I am having is resizing the video to PAL resolutions. I have looked at the guides and forum posts but I still do not get what to do........? Maths is not a strong point with me!

Here is the original video size according to G-Spot....
704x396 (1.78:1) [=16:9]

Can someone please give the correct resolution/size for it to be PAL and also how to do it (in lamen terms please)?

Thanks

Typically with avis, as far as resolution is concerned there's no NTSC/PAL issue. For resizing purposes all you need to know is that your source pixel aspect ratio is 1:1. And you need to make that into a PAL resolution m2v without buggering up the aspect ratio. You don't need to be adjusting the avi before conversion.

FitCD for example can generate an avs, but if you want to do the calcs yourself I think Q62 of the dvd2svcd faq is a good source of information. It's what I used originally :)

In any event you are probably best off using a one-click avi->DVD solution, there's a number of them around that will do what you want, including one by yours truly :).

16:9 (1.78:1) in PAL-DVD ist 704x432 letterboxed or 704x576 anamorpic.
Resize to one of these resolution and do a final letterbox to 720x576 or encode directly to 704x576.
