Ok not sure if this is the right thread but i had an avi file that i wanted to convert to mpg, i was using several different programs and i stopped them while processing because they were taking too long. This screwed the avi up to high heaven. When i opened it it would play the scenes all backwards and screwy and the sound was horribly out of sync. So i used avifreeze to fix it and the playback was normal again but the audio ony played the entire opening song over and over.
The original avi that was damaged had the normal AC3 audio track still so i extracted the ac3 with virtual dub mod, now my question is how do i get everything back to normal again? Thanks.

Hi!
1) Load the "fixed" .AVI into VirtualDubMOD
2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Processing"
3) Click on the "Streams" dropdown menu
4) Click on "Streams List"
5) Click on "Disable" to (surprise!) disable the problematic audiostream
6) Click on "Add" and select the "good" .AC3 audiostream you want to add back - Click on "OK"
7) Click on "File" and save with a new filename

You could also use Alexander Noé's AVI-mux (http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~noe/Video-Zeug/AVIMux%20GUI/index-eng.html)

when i used virtualdubmod it says its an mpeg1 file and to save it as mp3 instead of ac3 so will that work when recompiling it too?

Are you sure you've loaded the "fixed" .AVI into VirtualDubMOD?
Are you sure your "fixed" .AVI is actually an .AVI or, is it possibly an MPEG?

Hang on a second.... Does your AC3 stream say .ac3 at the end of the file?

ok lemme first start off by saying thanks guys for chiming in and giving me a hand, love the hugh laury (spelling) avatar btw.
Let me start over, somehow i screwed up this avi i d/l'd. When i would play it with say real player or winamp the time would jump around crazily, so i did a quick search on a net for something that would fix the avi, so i found avi fix program quickly, who knows if this thing does what its supposed to do: Avidefreezer: http://screw.wz.cz/avidef/AVIDeFreezer%20Tutorial.htm
It did however fix the jumping around but the audio kept playing the entire first scene (music intro) throughout the entire movie, it didn't loop rather just span out. So i used virtualdubmod to extract the audio and it opted me to save it as a mpeg1 audio stream or .mp3, i did so than i followed the directions to recompile with VDM again and went about my business, came back a few hours later and it says "not enough disk space to finish" or something along those lines. How much disk space would it possibly require i had about 20g's available? I wonder if my avi is totally screwed, if so, any progs u guys recommend to fix? Thanks.

I'm afraid that discussion of anything related to such activity is a violation of the rules of these forums...
P.S. Your most recent post suddenly makes no reference to .AC3 audio...
