i'm trying to re-encode the audo off a video file i have. the audio is vbr mp3 format, but vdub gives me an error when i try to re-encode saying "requested conversion not possible, check that you have required codec".

gspot shows audio as "0x0055(mp3)". audio is fine when i watch the video.

i already have lame mp3 acm installed. any ideas on what codec i should install?

can you demux the stream? if yes you can reencode it outside of virtualdub

This is, essentially, a duplicate posting...

Especially funny since the original thread is breaking rule 6, then rule 8 is broken with the cross-posting.

i re-encoded using razorlame but i end up losing about 30 seconds off the end.

any ideas on how to fix this?

do you really need to re-encode this audio? most decent media players will have no problem with it, and virtualdub only has a problem because it's built on VfW which pre-dates VBR audio.

transcoding lossy-to-lossy is an awful thing to do, so if you can make it play using the original audio, try to do that rather than making it sound bad. i believe there are several programs that can mux VBR audio into a blank video stream.

if you need CBR audio, try decode the mp3 into a wav and mux that into the avi...
