i downloaded a tv show, but audio is out of sync. i'm trying to re-encode the audio to fix, but i get error saying conversion is not possible. error seems like i don't have proper codec. gspot identifies audio as mp3 and i installed lame acm. conversion settings match my compression settings.
any ideas on why i can't convert? is there some special mp3 codec i should install?

Hi!
A) If the difference between audio and video is constant throughout the video:
Load the file into VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod, or NanDub.
Set BOTH "Video"(VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod and NanDub) and "Audio" (VirtualDub and NanDub - VirtualDubMOD>"Streams>"Stream list") to "Direct Stream Copy".
From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Interleaving" (For VirtualDubMOD, rightclick on the listed audiostream and then select "Interleaving")
Under "Audio skew correction", set an appropriate number of milleseconds (positive or negative) in the box labelled "Delay audio track by"
Save with a new filename
B) If the difference increases as the movie plays:
From under the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Framerate" - and select "Change so video and audio durations match"
Save with a new filename
Let us know of your success ;>}

it's different throughout. i tried changing framerate, but it still doesn't match.
i could fix it by re-encoding the segments. only problem is that virtualdub won't decode the audio even though gspot says it's just mp3 format

1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub
2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"
3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

"compression unknown (tag 0055)"
This would seem to indicate ("tag 0055" IS .MP3) that you don't have an .MP3 codec installed and recognized by VirtualDub - or, perhaps, the one you do have installed doesn't handle the bitrate that the audio was saved at...
Perhaps I've misunderstood something. When you referred to "downloading a television program", did you mean that you captured it from a television (in which case you must have the proper .MP3 codec installed) or something else?

i have lame acm mp3 codec installed.
Is it RECOGNIZED by/ACCESSIBLE from within VirtualDub?

I don't know if such activity is acceptable for discussion here...

yes, vdub opens the file. it just gives the "requested conversion not possible" error when i try to re-encode the audio

You misunderstood my question.
When you load ANY .AVI into VirtualDub, if you select "Audio" and then "Compression" and scroll down, is there "MPEG Layer 3" listed? If so, click on "Show all formats". What's listed?

a bunch of options ranging from 56kbit 24khz stereo, to 8kbit 8hz mono

That very limited range indicates that you DON'T have an .MP3 codec, other than the feeble Microsoft standard one, installed on your system - and the file probably contains an .MP3 audiostream of a higher bitrate (anywhere from 96 Kbps to 320Kbps)...

What you need is *not* just LAME, you need to install LAME's ACM Codec!
Here you can get a LAME package that includes the ACM codec:
http://www.rarewares.org/dancer/dancer.php?f=4
Extract the files, right-click "LameACM.inf" and choose "Install".
If Windows says something about the "Windows Logo Test" just continue the installation!

Now that you've apparently successfully installed the LAME .MP3 codec, when you load the .AVI into VirtualDub, does the "File Information" still reflect the audio as "compression unknown (tag 0055)"?
