Since the new Nero 7 supports Blu-Ray burning, does this mean that Recode will finally have a Blu-Ray compliant AVC profile?

Hello,

Just a question:

What is which differentiates Nero 7 from digital Nero pro 3.0.16?

And why digital Nero pro?

:thanks:

fight2win
11th October 2005, 19:50
nero digital pro just includes nero showtime and nero recode, so it is used just for encoding and playing media. Nero 7 includes a lot of stuff, all packed in a single suite!

fight2win,
Thank you for this small information.

NOTE: Nero 7 is excellent, but request more resource than Nero 6.

I managed to get my hands on a copy at the local Best Buy today and thus far, I am disappointed at least with Recode. For files I encoded before (352x240 ASP), I got 130+fps during second pass encode on my AMD 64 3700 and now, I get a crummy ass 30fps. Im going to uninstall everything and clean the reg and then reinstall and see if that does the trick. Ill be awfully pissed if I shelled out another $100 only to lose some major fps especially since we wont have HP AVC for a bit.

IgorC
12th October 2005, 00:36
Maybe quality was improved?

acidsex
12th October 2005, 00:47
"Maybe quality was improved?"

Possibly but what I dont understand is how before, I sustained 130+ fps but now with N7, it starts at 100fps and continually falls all the way down to 10 fps and this is for ASP 320x240, NOT AVC.

I guess Ill go back to 6.6 until the first update before I screw my system up.

guada2

It is astonishing your business.
I hope that you will manage to find the fault. Do nevertheless a previous restoration....

If not, thus make what return you from right

Bye acidsex, :)

ChronoCross
12th October 2005, 02:38
How did you manage to get 130fps? what settings do you use and do you do AVS or do you just encode straight from the vob?

acidsex
12th October 2005, 03:00
it was only mpeg-1 320x240 encoding directly from file (no avs). This just baffles the hell out of me why such a huge fps drop.

I can't found psp profile in new recode, lucky I have backuped prevous version and it can startup and do encoding fine.

found my answer on avs forum:

"Blu-ray supports H.264 high profile, but HD-DVD only supports H.264 standard profile. The end of chroma upsampling is reason enough to support BD."

looks like a little more wait for me, I'm doing a bunch of analog conversions (oop laserdisc, VHS, OTA, etc.) I've got them in mpeg-2 @ 20mb/s right now (imported via DVHS firewire) would prefer to go to AVC HP in a blu-ray compatible format for maximizing quality after cropping/noise reduction .....hopefully by 2006 I can be rid of my task!

I cant seem to find a decent priced DVHS recorder/player anywhere. The lowest I saw was $350 used on Ebay but this is something I dont want to chance on some auction thing. Any suggestions?

I got mine at CompUSA on closeout for $150. it's the JVC 4000 model, I love it; amazing video conversion quality, blows any capture card, DV cam, etc. away. I've tried them all, and this machine trumps!

plus it'll take protected HD firewire in and output S-video 16:9 squished so I can capture with my DVD standalone, import and author a 16:9 DVD of special events/ movies not released on DVD.

peace, chris

I've noticed that at least playing their demo my Athlon 3000 w/x700 pro and a Athlon 3200 w/6600gt can play the files back with ease (no higher than 60% processor usage) with 7 but neither could handle higher than 720p ono 6.6 I havent tried to encode anything yet to see if its any faster however.

Just spent 100 bucks cold hard cash...

What do I find? NO Blu-Ray support AT ALL! Not only are there no Blu-Ray video profiles in Recode or Nero Vision, but it does not even seem to be possible to burn a BD "image" from data files. Even the friggin' MANUAL has no mention of Blu-Ray capabilities!!

Furthermore, there is STILL no Recode support for encoding AVC with dual core CPU: I see only 52% of my Pentium D 820 being used. STILL no High Profile, as already mentioned by others. What has Nero done to this program to deserve another $100?

I agree. Other than the Nero Home and Scout crap, I feel like I just paid $100 for a new GUI which is horrible btw.

From Neros Webpage:

Burning and Copying

* Full-o-meter automatically adjusts to you project type (DVD-1, DVD-5 or DVD-9)
* Intelligent size calculation will suggest a DVD if data will not fit on a CD
* New, easy-to-use GUI for Nero Express and Nero InCD
* Use Nero Scout to index your digital media making it easy to find the right video or song for your CD or DVD
* Support for Blu-ray (BD-RE and BD-R) media

Furthermore, Nero has pissed me off with their lack of ND capable players here in the states. It just seems as anymore, it is all hype and annoucing features and products that arent even here yet.

SeeMoreDigital
13th October 2005, 21:08

Anther classic case of the phrase "support for" not actually meaning "included now"

I understand you look at this from a doom9 member point of view. But I don't think it was ever a goal to put the high profile AVC encoder to the first release of Nero7 nor was Nero7 release any specific update target for NeroDigital (which is anyway also sold as a separate product). HighProfile AVC will come out as a normal update. I'll let people know when I know when it's due to be out. Shouldn't be very long time any more.

What comes to BD-burning, it will be there as soon as the first actual BD-devices hit the market.

I still have hundreds of DVDs that I want to Recode and I am also eagerly awaiting SMP support for AVC. Will I have to wait for the High Profile encoder update to get it? or will it be a feature included in an upcoming 7 release before HP hits?

Hi JohnV,

As a matter of interest, would you, or any of the other NeroDigital/Ahead guys, be able to help out Jean Le Feuvre out with this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=723709#post723709) issue?

You have to wait for the updated Ateme AVC core in NeroDigital (the one which also has HighProfile support..)

@SeeMoreDigital
Is that a specific ND issue? Anybody asked from Haali?

I was wondering, is this normal to release a full new version (to get new customers) and then some weeks later to release the upgrade for the current customers? I don't understand because this new version couldn't be released if there were no current customers/owners of previous version. This kind of sucks.

Now, is there any speed/quality optimisation for the existing AVC profiles in the New Nero? If not, there is not much reason for me to buy the new version, IMO the only good thing I can see in the new Nero is the Custom Installation, which finally allows to deselect all the Nero apps I never needed.

JohnV
14th October 2005, 09:19
daldrum: I refer to my 2 answers above.
Nero7 release rather took the development emphasis somewhat away from Nero Digital during the Nero7 launch preparation months..
I will let people know here when the updated AVC core is integrated and going to be launched.

Nero 5.5 was updated many times (mostly compatibility and bug fixes, but some new features) after 6 was released, and 5 likewise before it, so I'd wager that 6 will get the same treatment. Feature upgrades of this version of recode are unlikely though.

still it will be there soon so here are my questions:
- is the avc high profile encoder included?
- is the ps-aac encoder included?
- does the aac encoder still work with the existing wrappers? besweet etc..

"Blu-ray supports H.264 high profile, but HD-DVD only supports H.264 standard profile. The end of chroma upsampling is reason enough to support BD."thats not correct

hd-dvd supports high profile (what this means exactly isnt known till now as the specs are not publically available till now afaik)

also there is no "h.264 standard profile" existing at all

- is the ps-aac encoder included?yes

- does the aac encoder still work with the existing wrappers? besweet etc.. seems so

additionally:
- do the nero filters work outside showtime?
seems so too
- do multiple audio streams, subs, chapters work outside showtime too with neros filters?

- is it still for free if you update it every month?
- if yes, do we need to download 100mb every month?

- does it delete your harddisk (hey nero 6 was able to do that)?

I got a copy at Fry's and am very disapointed.

I cannot - for the life of me get the 5.1 AAC encoding in recode to work. Worked fine on my old (upgraded 5.5-6-6.6 version). I think I have to "buy" the multichannel encoder.

If this is true - then WHY call it "ultra".

Reinstalling 6.6 with my serial number instantyly lets me take a HDTV TS with 5.1 -> MP4 with AAC 5.1/AVC

Far as I can tell nero 7 is a pile of ****. first lets start with the fact that recode crashed my video card that was fun. and now come to find out I can no longer use word as an editor in outlook because nero has corrupted something in the system.

I recommend staying away from this software for at least 6 months while they work out bugs.

Daodan
3rd November 2005, 13:24
Err, there was a thread around here about problems with nero 7 NOT playing avc like nero 6.6 did even if it should.(I think that thread is gone so I'll post here) . Well, the solution is quite simple (if for some reason, like myself don't want to switch to ffdshow and want to keep nero7). You start installing nero 6.6 and it will do some temp directory (don't press cancel yet) (docs&setts\user\local settings\temp\Rarsfx0) and there you will find the right filter (in dsfilters) that you can overrwrite the one installed by nero 7. This solves the problem and it doesn't affect nero's functionality in any way (it seems).

LeMoi
3rd November 2005, 13:37
And which filter should we replace to be able to play avc files without ffdshow (with nero 7 installed) ?

Daodan
3rd November 2005, 14:08
It's NeVideo.ax. You should write over the the one that's installed in program files\common files\ahead\dsfilter.
And all should be ok. (I don't know if you need also the nero splitter because I use Haali splitter for mkv and mp4).

LeMoi
3rd November 2005, 14:29
I replaced NeVideo.ax from Nero 6.6.0.16 to common files/Ahead/DSFilter and overwrote the old one, disabled h.264 decoding in ffdshow options, and i don't have video any more for mp4/mkv with h264 :/

I was very disappointed by Nero ShowTime and Nero Recode found in Nero 7.0.1.2 package.

Nero ShowTime when enabling hardware acceleration doesn't play some of my DVDs (I see a gray background instead of video output).

Nero Recode has the same Ateme h264 codec version 1.0.2.2 as NeroDigitalPro 3.1.0.16.

Russian language pack shows some texts broken in the installer, while choosing not to install russian support at all, the installer continues in the russian language regardless my choice.

While uninstalling Nero 7 leaves at least 20 its installed registry entries (the same goes for Nero 6.6.0.16 too, actuallly). Also I twice got an error of uninstalling (unregistering) some *.ax library. So far I have downgraded to 6.6.0.16 release.

Sorry. I know this isn't the place for bug reporting and I know I can get my ass banned for posting this. I just don't know anywhere else to post, so hoping someone from Ahead read this and reports, here it goes.

Nero has a bug when burning Audio CDs. It doesn't remove the 2segs between tracks. I set them to zero, Nero shows them zero, but burns them on the CD. Then when the CD is burned successfully it reports back the 2segs between tracks.

Oh, this is Nero 7.0.1.2, I downloaded from the website.

I have tried your method and it works..........successfully, thank you.
Do you know the reason why the new filter doesn't work??
Quite strange. I guess that nero wants more people to use their showtime player.
Maybe later I will post a vote between whether people will choose between downgrade the filter or use the showtime player instead.

To some point I am quite disappointed for the new version of Nero, I use Nero for the following three reasons only:
1. use their recode to back up
2. use their AVC decoder filter in "any " directshow player, not just nero showtime.
3. use their buring rom to burn disc.

Now, in v7, the decoder filter only works in "show time", I even need to downgrade the filter. Nearly, no new feature on recode.
the only improvement I see is that I can save the log after burning a disc.

They didn't even bother adding support for decoding ogg. But still, I use Nero mostly for burning and I would say there's a bit of an improvement.
