I'm new in decoding avi,
my problem is that when I use tmpgenc to convert the avi to mpeg2 the output file appears to has two times the length of the original, being the original 25 min aprox, and the output, 50 min, and when I play it with vlc media player, the video plays at normal speed but the timer goes two times normal speed,
so my problem is that the file becomes to large, 1 gb , and its not supposed to be that large.
can someone give me a hand please

Hi!
One way to resolve it should be as follows:
TMPGEnc>>File>>MPEGTools>>Merge&Cut
Load the MPEG2 file (Set mode to MPEG2 Program[VBR]), set the end point at 25 minutes and save with a new filename...

the thing is that when I play it the timer shows the video till min 44 aprox, and then a black image, but the video is supposed to be only 25 min long,
and I decoded it twice already and is always the same

The thing is, I've suggested a way to possibly resolve your problem. Have you tried what I suggested?

@saga_gx:
It seems like you do not have the output frame rate set correctly. This is set on the video tab in the Frame rate box. Do you know what the frame rate of your input file is?

I am almost sure your avi has VBR mp3 sound. TMPG doesn't handle this properly and an usual outcome is what you have.
You have two possibilities to do this right. Either use avisynth to frameserve the video+audio to TMPG, or use VirtualDubMod to uncopress the audio to wav (full processing) and load the avi as video and the wav as audio in TMPG.
There is a third way also - convert video only with TMPG and convert the audio to mp2 separately with audio encoder, BeLight for example. Then combine both with an authoring (multiplexing) software.

I have the same (or similar) problem. Simply using TMPGEnc to cut the video after the fact isn't a solution, in my mind.
Conversion from DivX AVI to MPEG2 now takes much longer for me than it used to and I think it has to do with the fact that TMPGEnc is creating these very long MPEG2 files. Converting a 30 minute TV show, for example, results in a file around 90 minutes long where the 60 minutes at the end is the last frame just held still. I am now "trimming" in DVD-Lab Pro but this takes a lot of time. TMPGEnc didn't use to do this. I have the frame rate set correctly and am encoding a M2V ES video only stream, so the VBR audio shouldn't have an impact.
Any ideas?
I'm running a P4 3200Mhz with 1,024Mb memory so conversion should be much faster. This problem of TMPGEnc creating very long MPEG2 files occurs whether I am encoding a 10 second clip or a 2 hour movie using a DivX AVI as a source.
Thanks!
