Hey all,

So I recently scammed verizon wireless into giving me a free e815 phone, their current top of the line handset that is NOT a pda phone. Lucky me.

This neat little phone has a transflash memory card slot and I ordered a 256mb card. Absurdly small, this tech lets you put 512mb on a memory card the size of your fingernail. I was wowed.

Anyway, in this phone's spec is the ability to play MPEG-4 files. I have started experimenting and this is what I have discovered so far:

Containers:
I have tried .3gp files created my mpegable, and homerew .mp4 files created by mp4box. both played perfectly fine.

video:
the .3gp file from mpegable used their mpeg-4 codec. Don't know much about it, but frankly I didn't really care as I really wanted to try XviD. I have heard lots about 3gpp compliant devices needing 15fps, but I was able to play an xvid encode (simple profile, level 0) at 24fps without any trouble. I have so far only tried 100kbps 1 pass vbr. The resolution was 176x96.

audio:
AAC 22khz 48kbit seems to work fine in the mp4 and 3gp container. Haven't tried anythign else yet.

Quite capable! It will be interesting to see how battery life is. I will try higher bitrate with some more advanced features later. Does anyone else have any experience with this phone? What have you seen?

I just got mine Tuesday - have you by chance found a way to rotate the video 90 degress to maximize the taller-than-wide screen? I'll have to give mp4box a try.
