Okay, I have an anamorphic movie that I want to encode WITH subtitles but when I encode it into Xvid it crops the movie. I want to make sure the black bars show to keep the aspect ratio correct when I convert it to MP4 (for the PSP) I need the black bars so the movie can stay at a 16x9 ratio and not distort the movie when I view it on the PSP. Is there any way to turn off the autocrop and keep the blackbars IN the movie so that it stays at 16x9?

It's under the Hidden Options, but I don't recall how to adjust it (That part should be in the guide, though).

Within hidden options (F9) you could turn on the tune autocrop option and set threshold to 0 and leave the four force cropping settings as 0. This would effectively force no cropping to be performed.

You can encode the source with full cropping and after use my tool (PSPEnc):

you can choose crop or addborders in order to keep the correct ar (values are calculated automatically).

i know the x264's spec, are multiple reference frames giving you trouble? :D
