I hope this is the right forum for this subject... Could someone give me a reliable (hopefully free) method to test a blank DVD-RW's pre-burn quality? Some member's links suggested that Nero's CD-DVD Speed tool could help me determine disc quality. I've tried Nero with mixed results (in one case I got a disc to read OK once then all red (bad) later) so not sure that I trust it. I'm asking because I have several RWs that I would like to use for short term data storage but I'm afraid to because of some past losses. These discs have small scratches, etc., that lead me to suspect them, but I don't want to mistakenly discard them. Thanks for any help, noels

You could go to a site that reviews/has reviewed CD media, and use their methods to determine the quality of the disc. (Unless those tests involved media that has been written too, in which case its useless for your purposes).

Thanks, movax. I've been to some sites but they all seem to talk about manufacturing codes to look at quality. Do you have any sites that do otherwise? I need a test of some kind... maybe I'll have to spring for new RWs instaead of fooling around with older RWs. noels
