is there any program out there now that can get passed the new encryptions?? I tried using dvd shirnk and dvd43 at the same time and my back-up dvd of alot like love came out blank. Seems theres a new protection system on the discs and i cant seem to find a good program like shirnk that can get passed the encryption. Is there a new program out there? and if not then what is the easiest way to back-up a dvd?

So if you're actually trying to rip a DVD why use the subject 'dvd burning'? There are a lot of tools out there that can break current encryptions, dunno about Doom9's policy regarding linking to them.

@cchoi31

Hi!

For MOST DVDs (Including MOST "ARccOS"-copy protected DVDs):

Use DVD Decrypter v.3.54 (NOT earlier versions) to "rip" the DVD to your hard drive in "File" mode - and from the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "All files" (NOT "movie files").

Then use DVD Shrink 3.2xx (NOT earlier versions) to "Open files" (NOT "Open Disk")

If the above method is not successful for a particular DVD, you might try DVDFab Decrypter (Different than DVD Decrypter) or, for a "one-step" solution (rip, compress and burn) you could use the commercial program DVD95Copy...

Hi All,

A note on Dvd95copy,

An update to handle "Lords of Dogtown" and future arccos variants has just been released.

An update to handle "Lords of Dogtown" and future arccos variants has just been released.

It's worthwhile to add that this latest version of DVD95Copy handles ALL of the different Region 1 versions (and, presumably, all other Regions) of "Lords of Dogtown" - "Theatrical", "Extended Cut", retail, rental - each of which has a different "ARccOS" copy protection scheme...

As does the new free PgcEdit ARccOS plugin and free DVD Fab Decrypter 2.9.5.2.

You may want to check to make certain that it handles ALL of the different Region 1 versions (and, presumably, all other Regions) of "Lords of Dogtown" - "Theatrical", "Extended Cut", retail, rental...

My understanding is that it does. As for rentals, except for those bought from the store subsequent to the rental period, I really think that would be no consequence (except in certain countries where copying them is permitted).

Hi Blutach,

It would be of consequence to me,I buy most of my movies from blockbuster, usually previously viewed, somtimes new. Both the new and previously viewed movies seem to be the same from them.

In addition to the right to copy rentals in countries such as The Netherlands, video rental stores in the US (and, likely, elsewhere) also SELL BRAND NEW videos at the time of release - IDENTICAL to the "for rent" product in the same stores and DIFFERENT (Different bad sector configuration/.IFO encoding) than those sold through retail-only channels.

In the case of "Lords of Dogtown", with SONY generating so many different versions, it's important to know which program(s) can actually process ALL of them...

JWOJim - I did say EXCEPT for those bought from the store ... :) My comments were not meant as a rant on DVD95Copy; rather simply to offer readers information on free alternative ripping solutions. We all know DVD95Copy does much more than rip DVDs.

@setarip - I guess people will just need to find out by trying the ripping prog.

@all - please do not ignore the very very interesting new progs being developed in our Italian forum - Rebuman's PSL2 Creator and, as I mentioned earlier in this thread, the Mad Monk's ARccOS plugin for PgcEdit (now up to v1.4), both of which I have tested successfully on an ARccOS disk here.

Update - None of the DVDFab Decrypter versions 2.95.x appear to properly handle the version of "The Lords of Dogtown - Unrated - Extended Cut" purchased from a major U.S. video rental chain.

As I mentioned previously, the rental store versions, both for sale and rental, have a different protection scheme...

Only a point of information:

On 10/10/05, "blutach" posted in this thread that "the new free PgcEdit ARccOS plugin" was able to properly process all versions of the "Lords of Dogtown" DVD. In fact, that capability (for, at least, some) appears to have just been added to that plugin on 10/11/05 (v.1.4) - so that anyone who had downloaded the then-existent (v.1.3) on 10/10/05, with the hope of applying it to a U.S. version of "Lords of Dogtown" (or a Greek version of "Layer Cake") would have been disappointed and, to say the least, bewildered...

Per the author of the plugin:

"Version 1.4
Hopefully first bug-free version.
The L4yer Cake (z2, Greece) problem is fixed.
The The Lords of Dogtown (z2, US) problem is fixed.
Added ability to launch DVD Decrypter from the plugins menu."

On 10/10 I reported about this plugin for PgcEdit and DVD Fab Decrypter (post 10). In post 11, setarip_old asked about DVD Fab Decrypter's ability to decrypt successfully all verisons of LODT to which I responded that I believed it did (post 12).

At that time, I had said nothing about the PgcEdit plugin and indeed I have started a new thread in Decrypting about the PgcEdit plugin.

This plugin is now up to v1.5, in fact.
