From the news page:
HD DVD apparently has a mandatory feature that allows you to make copies of your movies for portable devices and home theater devices in your home. I've never heard of this feature before, and I'm quite convinced it will be heavily DRM'ed nonetheless, but at least some companies are waking up to the fact that people are unwilling to pay multiple times to play the same content on different devices.
Not quite. According to Microsoft's Amir Majidimehr, Managed Copy will require an Internet connection and studios will be able to charge for it.

Messages like this make me glad with my decision
to not own either Blu-Ray or HD DVD for many many years.

And considering how crappy many new videos are
I dont feel myself at a loss at all. Internet seems
to have much better ways to entertain or find
info that may be beneficial to you in any way (fun).

I didn't get DVD until DVD drives and software players for the computer were available. I'll probably do the same with HD-DVD/BD.

my my those are the BIG PRINTS...who knew to look at the small prints.

a few often abused quotes won't be inappopriate here : "hook line and sinker!" and what w.c. fields said about one being born every minute. and yeh, as in "managed" to pull wool.

not to worry even diamonds can be cut...with diamond minds...

This article also discusses a possible reason why microsoft wants managed copy. Because they didn't and weren't planning on providing a next generation dvd player in the xbox.

I just read an interesting discussion which said that Microsoft's main problem with Blu-ray is because Blu-ray includes Java. This threatens Windows, Xbox and MSTV.

No, MS's main problem with BD is it belongs to Sony - their main rival in the console business.

I agree but BD having java creates big rivalry in the future OS of the home. It's bigger than just the gaming market.
