Any chance to load deshaker directly in avs script ?

Hello all,

I try to use the really powerful deshaker plugin from vdub inside an
avs script, unfortunately I couldn't find any LoadVirtualDubPlugin
syntax that loads the vdf correctly. I try to setup as much as possible
in ONE avs script, trying to avoid e.g. the "in between saving" with a
lossless codec before filtering.
I could to the first pass in vdub of course, however for the second
I would like to have all in one script.

The alternative would be DePan, however the number of possible settings
really keeps me from trying it at the moment. Any comments about the
quality of DePan compared to deshaker ?

Hi Lupus,

I use Depan all the time. It works fast and in one pass.
The result is almost as good as with deshaker.

Sometimes, on very unstable source, deshaker is stabilising so good, you get very blurred frames. This looks very unnatural and artificial.

Stabilizing of depan is a little less, but the result looks much more natural, in my opinion.

You can also let Depan write the log file, deshaker can then read it.
But then you need two passes again.

You can not load a Depan first-pass-write-logfile AVS-script in VirtualDub with a deshaker-second pass configuration because the logfile is created at the end of the file.

But you don't need Huffyuv for the first pass, in fact it's not important at all. The first pass is for writing the logfile only. You can overwrite the first pass AVI file over and over again. You don't need it.

It's also possible to write a Virtualdub script to automize the two deshaker passes.

Then you can run this script as a jobs file.

But first try Depan, it's very fast!
Use it with default settings and try.

Sure, I know that. The problem starts in the 2nd pass, when you want to
process the stabilized picture further. Because 2nd pass runs in vdub, one way to use additional avs filters is to store the stabilized output (losslessly) in a file and to do a 3rd pass for the "post stabilize filters". This is what I meant with "in between saving". Another possibility would be to set up
vdub as frame server, reimport its output into avs again do the post processing there. It worked, however the "chain" is quite big, concerning memory and cpu requirements.

I know, I have done this several times, however you have to set up each pass seperatley, processing time is quite high, and I like the idea of having a avs template, that includes all my preferred settings. If this would then run in a single pass, it would be my optimum.


So it looks like I should give DePan a try.

A few tips: try different trust and cutoff parameters.
