ATI All in Wonder SPDIF output

Does anyone know of a way to get any video program including ATI's fileplayer to output AC3 to AIWs spdif output. So far I have had no luck getting anything to go out the spdif except for DVD AC3 when using the actual DVD in the computer. I do not know of a way to be sure that any program can see it other than just testing it & my tests have failed. When I hook it up to my deck my dack acts as if there is no signal. Also if I can get something to see it is there a way to get it output just stereo also. In other words is there a way to get everything to go out this because otherwise I will have to switch the deck back to this every time I use a file that uses it because the deck will default back to analog input after it doesn't receive a signal from the digital inputs.
