View Full Version : PgcEdit wants to repair files

I have almost routinely made backups wherein my last "adjustment" to the VIDEO_TS structure is to run PgcEdit and use the "First start PGC" macro, so that my backups play the movie upon insertion.

When I load RB-Pro's output into PgcEdit, it wants to fix # of subpics and other things which I'd told RB-Pro to leave out (e.g. non-English subtitles, other language audio tracks).

I have said "yes" to letting PgcEdit fix these things--is that the wrong thing to do? The DVD seems to work alright after I do this. Is there someone here that maybe does the same thing (makes movies 1st play w/PgcEdit) that can tell me pros/cons of fixing w/PgcEdit vs. not?

as far as i know, rebuilder removes the subtitles, languages, etc.. but leaves the menu structure in tact , hence the difference in expected languages versus actual.

as far as i know also, there is no problem with leaving it this way, and likely no problem with "fixing" either, except possible reference errors in menus

It's done purposefully to ensure compatibility with the existing unmodified menu structure. You can select a removed sub or audio track, but it doesn't actually exist in the VOB files. I don't know how PGCEdit changes it, so I can't tell you which is better. But I can say that from my experience removing references in the menus manually that it is a risky business.

Thanks, I'll prolly "just say no" next time when PgcEdit wants to make these changes.

That sanity check feature can be turned on or off. PgcEdit has an improved layout so somewhere in the settings...
