I have tried just about all the DVD to AVI and DVD to MPEG convertors and I have not been able to get any of them to provide an AVI or MPEG file for each VOB or one large file which I can edit then re-author and make a finished DVD.

I simply want to get the DVD to either an MPEG 2 file or an AVI for editing.

Can someone please tell me which is the simpliest and least disruptive to file quality ripper to accomplish this.

What I am attempting to do is add the Video_TS.vob file that was omitted when several DVD's I made were originally authored. Not sure what caused this but without this file, I am unable to play these DVD's at the PC using ATI or PowerDVD player. Other DVD's I have made will play just fine as the contain the missing vob file above. Even the DVD's missing the vob file above will play in a DVD player but not will play using either of the two players mentioned and I have to use these players.

PLEASE HELP I KNOW SOMEONE KNOWS EXACTLY HOW TO RIP THESE DVD'S TO MPEG OR AVI FILES..

THANKS!!

I believe the rules state that you are supposed to use a thread title that describes your question/problem. Using a whiny/desperate thread title is frowned upon. Plus it is irritating.

Anyway, MPEG-2 is a crappy format to edit. AVI is much better.

One way is to load the VOBS is DGIndex and then save as a lossless avi - although the hard disk space required is significant. One way to reduce this, to some extent, is to use the lossless huffyuv codec, which will produce a compressed lossless avi.

But it sounds like don't want to edit the video, rather add an additional asset (new menu), in which case it's best to extract the main movie to MPEG-2 prior to reauthoring. You can use DGIndex in this case too. Or DVD Decrypter in stream processing mode.

You are both correct I guess I did not follow protocol. Excuse me.

You are both correct that my questions can probably be answered by reviewing previously posted material.

I have not had much success guessing how to use DVD2AVI so I would appreciate a referral to a really good guide if you would be so kind to provide.

I appreciate the advice to use GDIndex and would appreciated a guide to using this program as well. DVD2AVI certainly was not very intuntitive.

Again, I appreacte and value your suggestions. Please unders stand that I am attempting to simply recover the original MPEG 2 files used to make my DVD so that I might re-author them. If GDIndex is the best and most lossess program to use, you folks certainly know better than I. If DVD2AVI verision 1.95 will work as well, I will try that as I found that program from one of Doom 9's links.

Please advise and please refer me to the appropriate guide and I shall be most greatful.

Thanks again for taking the time to read my post and reply.

Load the VOBs in DGIndex. Then select Audio/Demux All Tracks. Then select File/Save Project & Demux Video. You will end up with audio and video elementary streams, which you can then use to re-author a DVD using your favorite authoring program, such as Muxman or TMPGE DVD Author.

Please edit your title to comply with rule 9. Hit edit on your first post and then change the title in the title box.

jkb242,

if i understand you correctly, the only reason you are re-authoring these dvd's is because you have a missing VIDEO_TS.VOB file from these back-ups, which your media player does not like?

if this is the case, i would suggest you download 'BlankVob.exe' by jsoto (link to jsoto's website (http://www.videohelp.com/~jsoto/dvdtools.htm) and create a blank VIDEO_TS.VOB fileof minimum duration and correct format (eg NTSC or PAL), then add this file to your back-up VIDEO_TS folder.

i would then open the VIDEO_TS.IFO in PgcEdit or Ifoedit to correct vts sectors.

this is of course assuming you have a valid VIDEO_TS.IFO

btw i took the liberty of changing your thread title as per Neuron2's and Matthew's suggestions. if you feel it does not correctly reflect your problem, please edit it to suit.

Hi!

I simply want to get the DVD to either an MPEG 2 file or an AVI for editing.

MPEGMediator will open an individual .VOB and/or group of .VOBs and convert it/them to .AVI...
