Green line at bottom of divx encode from xvid?

First of all I've been reading the forum for the past few hours trying to find an answer for this - hesitant to post because of the way I've seen people get eaten alive for asking a question that's already been asked. I've found threads for this problem, but no conclusive / working answer.

Anyway, I used to encode most of my stuff in xvid but I recently got a (to quote another thread) "shiny new Phillips DVP642" but it stutters a lot when playing xvid files. I'm trying to re-encode all my stuff from xvid to dvix so I can play the files on the standalone. Everything works fine but there's a werid green line at the bottom of the video. As I said I've been checking threads and can't find a working answer: the green line is NOT in the source, my video dimensions are multiples of 16, and it was from a progressive source, so I'm not deinterlacing. Also, the green line only shows up when playing on the SAP but not when played on the pc. I'm using divx6 with vdubmod to do the encodes - not sure if that would make a difference.

Again I apologize if the answer is here but I just can't seem to find it. Any help would really be appreciated.

uhm... what resolution is your encode?
are you sure the "interlaced" box was disabled when you encoded your stuff with xvid?

Have you tried updating the firmware on your Philips device?

The original resolution is 672x376 (I had no idea what I was doing at the time) but I've tried resizing it to various resolutions, particularly 672x368 - which has dimensions in multiples of 16 (or am I missing the point?) Also, even if it is encoded interlaced, it doesn't make a difference because I've tried progressive source, and deinterlace - maybe I should try keep interlace?

And also I haven't really been brave enough to flash my player.

One thing I haven't tried is using a different source file. I'll try right now.

I picked-up Divx 6 and tried it with AGK, converting a one-hour high-def transport stream. The good news is that with the Divx codec the conversion only took a couple of hours, where doing 2-pass Xvid took about 5 hours.

The bad news is that I have a WHITE line at the bottom of my Divx output, on playback w/my ShowCenter (sigma designs chip). Pretty distracting; hoping this thread can get to the bottom of it?

Edit: I guess my line could be viewed as Green too, depending on the display. But it does appear on PC players as well as TVs. Because the 16:9 program is letterboxed on a TV, the line doesn't "disappear" due to overscan...

yeah, upon further examination, the line shows up as white on my pc. I did get it fixed however - it was a resolution problem. What I was origianlly doing was resizing the height dimension to the nearest multiple of 16 - but that didnt take it away, however when I resized the width dimension in proportion to height it fixed it, i.e. original resolution was 672x376 and I resized to 656x368 (both the next multiple of 16 down from original res. Anyway, that seemed to fix the problem

Hmmm, what tool are you using tubaloth to encode to Dvix and tinker w/resolutions? I'm using AutoGK and it sets resolution on its own based on the filesize you want...

EDIT: This morning I'm looking at a couple of encodes that I did overnight, and the "green line" / white line is not there. So I don't know what the heck happened the first time. :rolleyes: I'm using Divx 6.0 and AutoGK 2.20final.

I've been using vdubmod, but maybe AutoGK is better. I'll have to try it
