Does S-Video carry sound or video only? I'm simply trying to connect a dvd to a TV. Unfortunately the TV only has two scart outputs which are already taken so I thought s-video would do, but I get no sound. Do I need RCA leads as well?

You need to connect the audio separately.

Thank you. RCA leads should do the job I hope.

Hopefully your player will be able to output "composite" video (via the scart output) and "s-video" at the same time!

Some players can't....

But I have to ask... What do you have connected to your DVD players scart outputs?

Cheers

Sorry I didn't make myself clear, my TVs input sockets are filled with a vcr and a cable tv connection. As I only have 2, I needed a further connection for my dvd. Thanks again.

If your VCR has two scart sockets have you considered wiring as follows: -

DVD player (Scart 1) -> TV (Scart 1)

Cable box (Scart 1) -> VCR (Scart 2)

VCR (Scart 1) -> TV (Scart 2)

Provided you have fully wired scart cables, you'll be able to watch cable TV when your VCR is in standby mode. And as soon as you switch your DVD player on, the TV should automatically switch over to the relevant input...

Some cable decoders also have 2 SCART sokcets, so you can do the same kind of thing with those.
