Help... I've looked at many sites concerning DVD quality and studied the codes, etc, but what does a guy do? You buy what you think is a good quality (Fujifilm, Maxell, Phillips) and you see that the codes say what you have is rated 2nd class or worse. So if I go to Best Buy or Office Depot or Staples and the people selling there don't know the differences, how can I know what to buy to get a good, reliable product? Also, I notice the packaging on the DVDs I've bought to date doesn't say where the DVDs are made... Anyone have a suggestion for what's "The Best" to buy, and where? I use DVD +R. Even if I need to buy on-line, I want to put my movie back-ups on something I can depend on. Thanks, noels

:readrule: Please read and follow forum rules, specifically, rule 12: do not ask what's best. Thank you.

You can ask people what brands they have had good experiences with.

For the record almost all new DVD players these days work well with either DVD+R/RW or DVD-R/RW discs of decent quality.

But for older DVD players DVD-R offers better compatibility.

As for brands, I'd suggest anything manufactured by Taiyo Yuden (package will say Made in Japan), Mitsubishi(Verbatim), TDK, or Ricoh.

I'd also suggest avoiding cheap brands like Princo and others.

I hope this helps.

:( Sorry nueron 2, I'll be more careful next time!

:) Thanks, Revgen, I've seen Verbatim in the stores and have used TDK CDs (always got good results with them for music), but never heard of Taiyo Yuden. I'll look carefully when I shop later today or tomorrow and try to select carefully.

You may want to Read this Thread. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=94725)
There is a link to 'DVD Identifier' so you can determine the manufacturer of your dvd's. Also, other useful info. is in the thread.

Lastly, I suggust you start a search on Media here at doom9.

feedback, thanks for your comments. I'll follow up on them stat. noels

feedback, I reviewed the thread you suggested and the comments make a lot of sense. Burning at half speed (and using good media) seem to be keys to good burns. I plan to buy Taiyo Yuden's and will burn them at half rated speed. I appreciate your help. noels
