With no DVD inserted, the max and only speed available in nero for DVDR is 2.4x. The box says it cat record at 4x however.
It detects CDR record speed properly at 16x

I have updated the firmware to 1.93 the latest, the official version from NEC. I think Nero has exchange DVD+R and +RW. It only can record RW at 2.4x. What programs can I use to show the max burn speed of a DVD+R to check whether it is Nero's problem or my drive's?

maybe you should use another firmware:

I flashed my NEC 1500A with the one posted above and had no more problems in detecting the right burning speeds with nero...

I guess NEC doesn't support the old dvd_burners (1100,1300) anymore :(

You can check to see what burn speeds are available for your burner & media with DVDDecrypter.
