Large MPEG

What can i do to reduce the size of an MPEG so that it will fit on a single layer DVD? I usualy come from a DVD and use DVD Shrink to fit a duel to single layer, but this way I'm starting with the MPEG file that I have captured (analog source.)...Any sugestions on a program / tool?

Load the MPEG into "TMPGEnc" or "TMPGEncPlus" (Both are different than "TMPGEnc DVD Author") and apply a reduced bitrate...
