Hello all,

I have been using DVD Decrypter and AutoGK to make back-up .avis of all of my movies for a while now.

Recently I have been running into severa problems with the ripping and encoding process. After some reading I think that I have narrowed the ripping problems down to the "structure protection" that a lot of the newer DVDs are using. After I checked the "remove structure protection" option in DVD decrypter, they mostly rip fine.

However, I have encoded the movie XXX State of the Union and have run into an audio issue that doesn't happen when I just play the DVD. At 1:15:11 there is a "pop" sound and the volume goes to almost nothing. I have reencoded the movie to see if it was just a fluke and it happens in the same exact spot. However if I forward in the movie and play it after the 1:15:11 mark, the sound volume is where it should be.

This might be a ripping, encoding, or audio issue. I do not know which, so I posted in this forum because I think that it is an encoding issue.

My programs/processes:

Ripping: DVD decrypter 3.5.4
Yes it is in IFO, file mode

Encoding: AutoGK 2.18.1 (just updated, before I was using 2.09)
Encoding XVID format w/ original AC3
No subtitles
At 75% and Custom size of 1600 MB

Play back: ATI File player and AC3 filter

Thank you,

Andy

P.S. The movie The Forgotten came out all whacky, before I turned on the "remove structure protection" option on DVD decrypter, if I ripped it again with that option on, will it work?

Hi!

If I remember correctly, both DVDs you've named contain "ARccOS" copy protection (bad sectors). Try the following:

1) Reset DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 to "Default Settings"

2) Use DVD Deccrypter v.3.5.4 in "FILE" mode (select "All files", NOT "movie files") to initially rip the DVD to your hard drive

3) Use SmartRipper to extract your required video and audio streams from the DVD "package" on your hard drive

If it was an encryption based error, why would everything else be great through the entire movie? And if I scan past that one part where it pops, everything else is fine?

Just speculating that the methodology you employed may have resulted in a minor corruption. For the few minutes it would take to follow my suggestion, you might be pleasantly surprised!

Over the years, I've learned that anything is possible when it comes to computer usage and applications ;>}
