hi
For some time been wondering how to fix this problem, perhaps you can help. Using dvb card Nexus to catch ppv movies from di*h sattelite to my computer hd directly. The idea is to to make dvd's later for my collection. Found way to do it practically without problems.But... the captured movies are in 544x480 frame size. I can still make dvd's with that using my developed process and all these dvd's will playback on my standalone dvd player and therfore I'm sort of lucky. But those dvd's wont play on other dvd players, which afterall makes me look stupid. It's been quite some time since I started to search for solution, with not much luck. TempegEnc did encoded my files to dvd standart of 720x480 but I'm getting black margin lines on left and right side of my screen. it looks like widescreen but in vertical. I know about dvdPatcher but that is not a solution it gives problems too. Been wondering if something you could suggest to get dvd standart frame size. Perhaps, Tempeg settings are not right (but I look in to that) and can't find anything that I missed. Maybe totally diffrent type of software is out there which may work. In some of my tryouts I ran in to big sync problems and stopped using them ei:virtualmod, avisync etc. I had to ask sombody for opinion in this matter, hoppfuly you can thing of something. Sorry for the length of this message, just like to explain problem little better that's all.

Why is your captured video at 544x480? The problem's with your capture card or the software that's driving it. There must be a setting somewhere?

T-MPEG (or any other software for that matter) is not going to solve the problem of the vertical black bars.

Using MyTheatre or dvb Ritz to capture movies. Can record them in mpeg2 directly and then go through authoring process to get ready for dvd, or in pva format and start authoring process from there. There is no option to choose any other size, 544x480 is there by default with nothing to adjust. My dvb card is Nexus or skystar1 as is called too. Thx.

Hmm. Maybe worth having a look here...

http://www.dvbcardsusa.com/progdvb_guide.html#Installing

and making sure you set it to "hardware mode".

the 544x480 will be what they are broadcast as, and the 'record' is just saving the stream.

you can use the SVCD->DVD (without re-encoding) guide and make sure to set it to 544x480 rather than 480x480 at the end ;)
