Transcoding HD files

Will any of the mpeg-2 encoders start with a 10801 or 720p mpeg-2 file and transcode with a lower bit rate to arbitrary resolution, i.e., > 480i or 480p? I'm not interested in making a DVD. Recode 2 can do this -> an MP4 file.

tmpeg should be able to out of the box, and QuEnc and HC will be able to do it via avisynth.

i don't think CCE takes anything but regular SDTV and subsets (like cropped d1, half-d1, SVCD and VCD).

My TMPGenc 2.5 is limited to 720x480.

ah. in that case try resizing it in avisynth to your desired resolution, then just set that in tmpgenc so it doesn't do another resize stage.

tmpg 2.5 supports heaps of output resolutions, so i guess you just have to choose one and tell avisynth to resize to that (that is if tmpgenc can't take the HD files as input).

I'm trying to avoid Avisynth. TMPGenc limits you to DVD resolutions.

OK. So where do you get the HD templates?

I don't think there's any such template. Just unlock the settings and pump up your resolution.

HDTV only can be produced in the higer MPEG2-Levels. If you choose the correct Level, you can use TMPGEnc 2.5x to encode to any HDTV-Size.

Simply a right-click on the TEXT Profile & Level in Setting -> Video does the job, no template needed. ;)

Great! Now the problem is TMPGenc Plus doesn't do AC3. Xpress 3.0 does but I've heard that you really are limited to DVD resolutions. Is that correct?

I'm using 2.5x and the AC3-Plugin as Stand-alone-Program - works perfect for me.
Never used XPress, i don't like this thing. ;)

What do you mean by Stand-alone-Program?

Stand-alone-Program means, you can use it as a program not only as a plugin.
So i have 3 ways to use TMPGEnc Sound Plug-in AC-3:

As a simple to use tool
Integrated in TDA
Integrated in DVDLab Pro

Isn't this enough? :D
