Quick question for the moderators on this - would recordings / captures from DVB-T being converted using AutoGK, be considered fair use, or breach of the rules?
I ask, because on occasion I do either capture or record from DVB sources, and convert in order to play on my portable media player.
I note this is a different kettle of fish to downloaded material being converted. I mean my portable media player can directly record from these sources, but I would tend to do things more in software, in order to edit (top / tail and remove ads) and I prefer the quality of converting in software with AutoGK, than the rather more crude hardware encoding my pmp does.

I think it's safe to say that if it's something you yourself recorded specifically for your personal viewing, then it's ok. In fact there's a whole sub-section of this forum ( HDTV / DVB / TiVo (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?f=64) ) dedicated to this.

I kinda got that impression, just wanted to clarify a bit.
Looking into the topic that's closed, it's more clear, now, why it was - the poster does clearly mention he downloaded the video source, and the paths in the log betray where it was downloaded from.

Clarence, you are forgiven. I (and other mods) would repectfully request that you review the forum rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm). Please try to abide by them while you are here.
Regarding intellectual property rights, law varies from place to place. This is a global forum; our policy is stricter than some countries' laws, and less strict than some. But we feel it is reasonable, and fairly understandable. Our policy is based on DVD backup, we apply it as best we can to other situations. In brief, if you do not have rights to the content, we won't help you with it, and we do not condone the use of that property.
The policy is outlined in the Piracy and Copyright section of www.doom9.org/disclaimer.htm. Obviously, there are different ways to interpret the policy, and we moderators make our best judgement. If you feel you might be entering a gray area, you can certainly ask for clarification.
One document that might help you to understand how many of us on the moderation team interpret the issue is this announcement from the Newbies forum: ATTENTION: Read this before posting! Especially on downloaded movies, or movies you do not own! (http://forum.doom9.org/announcement.php?f=6).
Thanks!

Thanks everyone, I've re-read the forum rules and noticed that I was in the wrong. I had the thought that because it was a capture it would be ok, but I understand that the capture is not my own so I broke a rule with my request. I hope this won't affect responces if I happen to post questions in the future. Thanks again.
