Hi all,

I had a very weird problem with my premiere, everytime I render my movies the preview file is always pure black! It's so weird so i can't preview the effects on my movie after rendering, I have to export to avi to view it properly...Anyone knows how to fix this?

I didn't change any of the settings on the premiere...so weird :(

There are project settings that determine what codec that premiere uses when doing its render. I forget where these are and I don't have premiere here right now or I'd look it up for you. But find this and try using a different codec.

Also, when premiere renders the previews, it is rendering them to files somewhere on the disc. Find this location and try to play those files. I'd try a few different players like maybe VLC, Windows Media Player, and then something like BSPlayer. See if it plays on any of these or if it's black on these as well. Also, you may want to delete your old render files just for good measure.

I have the same problem as gantengx, I took the advice to change the render codec, which is found in Project>Project settings>Video Rendering. When I go there however, I can't choose a different codec. The only one that is there is 3ivx and the drop down box is greyed out. I have K-lite Mega codec pack installed with the default options.

I went to the directory where the preview files are stored and tried playing them in Media Player Classic and they all played fine.

Again though, when I go into Premiere and preview the video on the output monitor it plays fine until the section that has some overlayed graphics (.psd) with effects applied to them. When it gets to that section the video goes black, sound keeps playing. When it gets past this the video returns. During the black period the program is non responsive, not locked up but clicking on anything will not produce a result until 10-20 seconds after the video has returned and everything is back to normal.

Please help if you can!!

Thanks in advance!

Update: Don't think this changes much but I just went in again to play it and when it gets to the point in the timeline where the effects are the screen didn't go black. Instead it just stayed on a still image of the last frame before the effects. Other than that though, behavior is the same as described above.

it's just the exact same problem, it's just the codec thingie, try to uninstall the k-lite mega codec and reinstall ur adobe premiere, should be ok...

I don't know why it doesn't give you an option and yet your stuck with 3ivx of all things. Mine is greyed out, but it gives me NTSC DV as the option. I'm also not sure why the choice is disabled. It seems like the newer versions of Premiere never let you change anything anymore. The older versions gave so many more options :S

you can change all settings only on startup of new project. you can't change it later...
