Need info on legality of copying from TV

Can somebody give me a link where can I find info on what's legal for copying programs, movies, etc from my TV screen or from cable subscriptions such as HBO, Showtime, etc? :confused:

It will depend on your local copyright laws. If you are in the US I can just tell you what's kosher and what's not but you'll have to clarify exactly what kinds of copying you are talking about. Otherwise your best bet is to just read your country's copyright provisions.

Hi adam,

I am in US and I'm talking about movies that come from my cable provider and are on network TV, cable channels such as HBO, Showtime, etc... they are the same movies that are on commercial DVDs but they don't have FBI warnings or copy protection when they are on TV. For years everybody made VCRs of this kind of movie - I'm not sure what's changed, if anything.

No one is likely to ever prosecute if you're only saving them for your benefit. Obviously it's legal to videotape a show and people save those, and as long as you don't share the recordings in any way no one is going to care.

Instead of creating a new thread with the same post, you could have edited the title of this one. You can still delete the other.
