Does anyone have lying around somewhere the v0.9 of the AC-3 ACM Decompressor codec? Foolishly I installed the latest v1.0 of it without keeping a backup of the previous version only to find that it crashes GoldWave all the time when trying to extract out AC-3 audio to WAV.

I would really like to go back to v0.9 but it seems the author doesn't provide access to obsolete versions and I can't find it anywhere else either. It was released on 15 September.

Thanks.

maybe it would be better to report the crash to the author so he can try to fix it then?

I'm sure he has an old build lying around.

Well I would but his primary method of contact is via a forum that I never visit and which requires registration to post in. Seeing as how I'm already a member in 3 video related forums, I have neither the desire nor the time to devote to yet another one just so I can tell him about a problem he already knows about. He does say "I'm just happy when it doesn't crash" about the latest version. So, yes, I'm stupid for not backing up v0.9 when I had it. I admit that. I just wish I could find it again.

That's strange. The only thing I added to version 1.0 was the AC-3 encoding part. I don't think I changed anything about the AC-3 decoding part, but I'll certainly investigate it...

In the meantime, I've uploaded a copy of version 0.9 for you here:

Perfect! Thanks for that. All is right with the world again. No crashes anymore, just nice, smooth, hassle-free AC-3 decoding. Please keep that link to v0.9 alive for a bit longer. I've given it to someone else in the videohelp forums who was trying to help me find it. He may also like a copy as he only has v0.7. Cheers.

I got similar problem with 1.0 when used with virtualdub 1.6.10. When I used virtualdub to try extract ac3 audio to wav from a xvid .avi file, virtualdub popped up a message saying i don't have a vfw codec to decompress it.

So I uninstalled it and reinstalled 0.90 and virtualdub extracted the ac3 audio to wav successfully.

That's understandable, because I know what the problem is now. I changed some code in the way it recognizes AC-3. It was a necessary change, but unfortunately it's causing unforseen problems. I hope to have a fix soon.
