View Full Version : removing studio intro's (help plz)

greetz every1,
I was wondering if there is a simple way to remove a studio intro from the main movie.
I have an intro that is part of the cell 1 (a few sectors) but cell 1 is also the first chapter of movie.
At the moment i can only think that i'm going to have to demux the video and audio so as to edit them, then remux etc. This thought scares me :scared: as i'm worried about screwing the audio sync!
thxs in advance

You can do it with VobBlanker (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm).
See the Previewing and Cutting with VobBlanker guide here. (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/guides.htm)

You can do it also with VobBlanker. Use the Prev/Cut button.
And it's also possible with DVDRemake (Pro?), but it's not a free tool.

Thanks r0lZ. Yes, it is surelly possible with DvdReMake (Pro is not needed for this). Just scroll to the end of the scene you want to remove, right-click and "cut to here".

Many thnxs for the replies.... i have had a quick go with VobBlanker but it errors "error reading input VOB: unsynchronised" even if i do nothing with the dvd structure! tried opening with PGCedit and it reports that some vobs are still encrypted. There were no errors reported when ripping so assuming it is deliberate on the part of studio?
Will try dvd remaker, it take it Dimad that you can use basic for free? hopefully i get chance to look l8r.
again many thnxs

The error you got may comes from an inadequation in the VOBs and IFOs. In this case, you should try to do a mock strip (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=84097) on the title domain, before cutting the intro.
The same kind of error may be caused by a Sony ARccOS protection, but the latests versions of PgcEdit should gives you a different error message. Which version do you use?
berrick
27th September 2005, 15:51
Version 0.6.0 :)
i'll try a mock strip, tho i have never done one.... just need to locate the info i have seen on this site ;)

WELL!
I have carried out a mock strip and i still get a problem with VOBblanker. Also with DVDremake it strips out the few sectors in cell one i want but strips everything prior to it, including the intro's i want to keep and the menu's :(

Must be the copy of DvdReMake you are using: http://cdr-zone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1393

What did you use to rip the DVD? VobBlanker and PgcEdit should be able to open it if it's properly decrypted. You could try the latest version of DVDFab Decrypter it is updated to handle more ARccOS titles.

i used dvd decrypter... i can open the dvd and play it etc... it is only when i try to chop the first few sectors of the main movie cell one i have problems?
Taelon

Ohhh, I remember reading something about that. I think ARccOS puts in a group of blank sectors at the start of the title, but I thought they could be cut away without problems.
See this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=100040)

What I usually do with arcoss disks is:
- Rip with THE ripper (dvddecrypter, for sure) in FILE mode
- Remove the blank cells with pgcEdit. Really easy if there are not programs and chapters on them. (usually there aren't).
- Normal process with VobBlanker (it removes the unused cells)
Up to now, it always worked for me...

How do I know for sure that a DVD is protected with Sony ARccOS?

Most of the time, you'll see something similar this in your DVD Decrypter logfile.
W --:--:-- Possible Structure Protection Found!
W --:--:-- 2 areas have been marked as 'suspect'.
W --:--:-- Dummy sectors will be inserted where necessary.

Also, the structure of the first cells of your main title is somewhat 'spacial': Chap. Prog. Cell Type Layer Ang VOBU Cell Cell Playback End Entry First Last Last VOB Cell

...Here, cells 1 to 7 are blank cells. You can verify that with the preview. You may safely delete them. After that, don't forget to change the program numbers so that program 2 is at the right place.

Funny how what on my part was a simple question has lead to something most interesting :) I wasnt even aware of this protection, keep it going.
FYI - it appears all the problems except one, which i'll get to in a minute, that lead to this post stem from corruption of some of my files. I reloaded the DVD and DVDremake and all is well....... well except that i still cant cut the sectors from within cell 1 that started this hole thread with VOBblanker. I followed the link from Taelon but it just dont happen??
remeber everything i want to cut is a few sectors all in cell 1.
when i set the intial mark or end mark in VOBblanker 2.0.1.0 i get a message saying "the selected GOP is an open one, so if this mark is the init of the playback, the first picture can not be properly decoded, so VOBblanker will mark it as a broken GOP"
If i process the dvd nothing has changed?? any thoughts

Try PgcEdit as jsoto & r0lZ mentioned earlier. I know you said you tried it earlier but perhaps that rip was incomplete?
r0lZ

How do you mean?When you remove some cells, the program assignments are not changed. Therefore, if program 2 was pointing on cell 10 before the edit, it will still point to cell 10 after. But it should point to cell 3 instead (in my example). Similarily, the last programs are now pointing to nowhere, since there are now less cells. As the chapter numbers are determined by the program numbers, they will also point to wrong cells.
To restore the correct assignments, you need to fix the programs. It's easy to do by clicking on the empty program buttons in the cell table, to fill them with program numbers.

I understand the info in your last post r0lZ but i'm dealing with sectors not cells therefore i assume that i dont have that issue?
For example:
Init Mark Cell# 1 Sector [lba] 15
End Mark Cell# 1 Sector [lba] 9543
main movie starts @ Cell 1 sector 9550

Yes, my post was a reply to CoNS.
However, maybe VB cannot process your VOB because it fails to process the dummy sectors inserted by DVDD whan it replaces the ARccOS blocs. You should try to remove the unnecessary cells (if any), and then process the VOBs with VobBlanker, without doing anything else. After that, you may be able do do what you want.
The Open GOP problem is another thing. As said in the error message, if you cut at an open GOP point, the cell will begin by a frame that cannot be properly decoded, because that frame needs informations that you have destroyed. However, the message says that the GOP will be marked as broken, so I don't understand why nothing has changed. Ask Jsoto. But anyway, you should avoid cutting at this point. Try to cut the cell at the next or prev GOP.
Also, you should try to open your DVD with DVDShrink. If it fails, then you have probably some dummy ARccOS sectors in the VOB. If it is accepted, you can try to cut the intro with DVDShrink, and replace the VOB after, with VobBlanker.
Note that the PUO plugin for PgcEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/beta/puo_plugin.tcl) can be used to find if there are ARccOS dummy sectors in the VOB. Use the option to remove the PUOs in all VOBs. During the scanning, if a dummy sector is encountered, an error message will be shown. Unlike many other tools, this function scans the whole VOB, not only the referenced cells.

If I may:
These cells cause no harm and take up no space! - we're talking about 28k! I reckon just leave them in. Then novices won't get into trouble with program and chapter tables.
The cell command takes you to cell 8 anyway, I bet.

I bow and grovel at the feet of those i'm not worhty to look apon or speak thy name in the hope they will forgive my failings ;) i need further guidance plzzzzzzz.
I have downloaded PUO plugin and shoved it in the bin directory, restarted PGCedit but; ummm how do i use it??
Also I can (as previously stated) open this dvd in PGCedit, vobblanker, dvdshrink and get no errors. I can cut the sectors i wish with dvdremake and dvdshrink and all works, so i'm thinking tiz some quirk with vobblanker that wont let me perform this cut with it?
Taelon
29th September 2005, 18:58
berrick, it's easy ;)
Once the PUO plugin is installed it can be found in Plugins -> Prohibited User Operations; select "Clear all VOB PUOs".
No idea why you're having trouble making the cut with VB, you realize it doesn't work at the Cell level right? Also do you have the latest version, 2.0.1?

To use the plugins, you need at least PgcEdit v0.6.0. V0.6.1 (still beta) is preferable for some plugins.
berrick
29th September 2005, 22:54
i'm afraid i'm having a very blonde moment over this plugin!! I'm using PGCedit 0.6.0 and i cant see any mention of plugins, how to install etc. :confused:

There are two subfolders in the main directory of PgcEdit (bin folder and plugin folder).
Putting all plugins in the plugin folder. Starting Pgcedit again and in the menu bar above there is the Plugins now.
r0lZ
30th September 2005, 01:27
Yes, you have to copy the tcl file in the plugins folder. This will be explained in details on my homepage when I will release v0.6.1 final.

Thnxs Taelon,Tobii & r0lZ. I was begining to think i was losing it!!
r0lZ, is PGCedit supposed to create the plugins directory? as in my case i had to create it manually and move the plugin to it from the bin directory were i had d/l'ed it to. Once i had done this of course it worked np's :) . I guess if not then it'll be covered when you realese 061.
Update for information only:
Once the plugin is installed i can no longer edit cmds etc and get the following:
can't read "::ced::widget(cmdFrame)": no such variable
can't read "::ced::widget(cmdFrame)": no such variable
while executing
"destroy $::ced::widget(cmdFrame)"
(procedure "hexcmd_to_gui" line 4)
invoked from within
"hexcmd_to_gui"
(procedure "::ced::cmdeditor" line 5)
invoked from within
"::ced::cmdeditor"
(procedure "::main::action_Edit_Cmd" line 17)
invoked from within
"::main::action_Edit_Cmd"
(menu invoke)
Removing plugin all seems ok again.

r0lZ, is PGCedit supposed to create the plugins directory?The plugins directory is created automatically by v0.6.1 beta12, but not yet by v0.6.0.
Once the plugin is installed i can no longer edit cmds etc and get the following:
can't read "::ced::widget(cmdFrame)": no such variable
can't read "::ced::widget(cmdFrame)": no such variable
while executing
"destroy $::ced::widget(cmdFrame)"
(procedure "hexcmd_to_gui" line 4)
invoked from within
"hexcmd_to_gui"
(procedure "::ced::cmdeditor" line 5)
invoked from within
"::ced::cmdeditor"
(procedure "::main::action_Edit_Cmd" line 17)
invoked from within
"::main::action_Edit_Cmd"
(menu invoke)
Removing plugin all seems ok again.Strange. I have tried that, without problem.
Can you please use v0.6.1beta12, currently available here (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/beta/PgcEdit_winexe_0.6.1beta12.zip)?
Thanks.

NOP Taelon just the one loaded.
r0lZ, the beta version created the folder and shuttining down, coping the plugin into the folder then restarted, seems to work fine, but;
I seem to hit another snag when editing bov's.
I was going through some points in the manual and deleted a button from a menu. I then created a new button to restore the function of the button i deleted. Everything appeared ok till i saved the dvd, i then get the following messages:
1st
Error opening the
""
couldnt open "":no such file or directory
then get
Errors saving the menu buttons/BOVs!
I did notice that after loading the dvd from hd i had the following, dont no if the highlighted part is significant
DVD inserted: "C:\Films\stage_2"
DVD inserted: ""; Provider:
DVD inserted: Resetting all GPRMs to 0.
DVD inserted: Initializing the SPRMs to default/setup values.

I will try to do the same edit as you did, but I can't imagine why the program has lost the DVD path. Maybe you were running low in memory?
Is it a problem with v0.6.1 beta 12 you just downloaded, or with the previous version?
Another user had some similar problems. It appeared that he was using a version that was badly downloaded. This caused random errors like the first one you reported.
The empty string in the trace log means that there is no DVD-Text General Name defined for the current DVD. It's not an error.

Very quick reply as falling asleep....
I get the same problem with the menu button edit with version 060 as well but just to add, i have been playing to see if i could offer further useful info and have come to the conclusion that I must have effected something else that i cant remeber!!
If i try to repeat my steps with a clean version of the same dvd i used when i get the problem everything works? if i go back to the other version i still get the problem?
FYi i doubt its memory related (at least i hope not) i have a Gig of cas 2 memory using dual controllers
Guess this will have to be put down to user error ;)

If you want, try to isolate a cell of the DVD, and if the problem persists, send it with the IFOs at pgcedit <at> tiscali <dot> be. I will try to understand the problem.

Thnxs for the offer r0lZ but i have got the dvd to work the way i wanted so i'm happy to consider this post closed unless you need me to try a few more things regarding the last issue i had.
As stated, i have since completed the task ok with PGCedit (i really like the trace option).
FYI
The more i think about it the more convinced i become that the vob in question was a copy which i had used with menuedit to remove a button as i was comparing both your proggy and Dimads to see which i prefered. Unfortunately i have deleted everything now as i have burn the dvd. I will keep you informed if i get chance to try it again with the next dvd but i now have another question about menus so time to start a new post :)
Big :thanks:to every for their help
