View Full Version : DVD-R recognition problems in Win XP

This is very funny problem: some burned DVD-s, mostly DVD-R ones are incorrectly recognised by Win XP, and I can not open content in Explorer or Total commander, but I can see content and extract files for example with Isobuster. No such problem in DOS or Linux.
It looks that XP recognises such disks incorrectly as RW medias, and some confusion occurs. Some of medias were recognised well earlier, but now not, so I suspect that it has something with quality of medias/recording. Most of such diks is Primedisc (Ritek), but there are Verbatim medias too.
Any solution, explanation?

I seem to have a similar problem. A data disc of just photos and mp3s XP tells me there is no disc BUT if I put the disc into a WIN 98 machine it will see it. Older burned discs have no problem. Pro made discs have no problem. Only stuff burned on this burner/machine can't be read by it. 1 out of 6 cdrs I have the same prombem. ISO buster does'nt see it either. I even switched from NERO 6.xx down to NERO 5 and also to Alchol 120. No luck.
win xp sp2 using a pioneer 106d drive with Imation and Maxell dvd-r stock and Philips dvd+r stock. Maxell , imation, tdk cdrs.
Anyone have an answer???

Is it the burner or windows not being able to read it?
If the answeer has been addressed in the past and is posted elsewere please let me know.

Some of the DVD-R discs that I've burned take forever (about 1 to 2 min) to be recognized by Windows XP Pro.
This seems like the same issue.

I have had a very similar problem with my Pioneer burner (and even, before, with a Pioneer DVD-ROM, and commercial DVDs!)
I have now a Nec burner and a cheap DVD-ROM, and I don't expericence this problem anymore. So, IMHO, it's a Pioneer problem, combined with something in Win XP. Maybe the driver?
I don't recommand using Pioneer drives at all: there is always something that doesn't work as expected!

Sounds like you've had some bad luck. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I've experienced 100% success with my Pioneer 108 ;>}
