Hi!

".NRG" and ".IMG" are both disc image files - and should be playable using the "VLC" (VideoLAN) player - or by using DaemonTools to mount in a virtual drive...

APE is a 100% loosless audio-compression. This format is called "Monkey's Audio". These files are much bigger than MP3, OGG, AAC or alike. You can play them in Winamp, but you'll need a plugin. I think the best is, you convert those files to a more common format, which will play on most players. All you need can be found here:

Foobar2000 is a very good Audio-Player. It supports almost any type audio-file existing today. The best is: You don't need any codecs, plugins, filters or alike. The User-Interface is somehow hardheaded. I think you should give this player a try! Take a look here:

I think those ".dts" files are raw DTS audio-files. DTS is a compressed multi-channel audio-format. DTS is used on some Video-DVD, since the quality is better than AC3 aka Dolby-Digital. Think a DVD-Player software should play back those files. Don't think ".dts" files are very common. Maybe they were extracted from a Video-DVD.

VLC Player is able to play those image files, if they contain playable data. For example when the Image represents an Audio-CD or a Video-CD. Of course an Image file can contain any type data. Usually you use a burning software like nero to burn the image-file on CD-R or DVD-R.

".nrg" = Nero Image File
".img" = Raw Data Image (is there another file like ".cue" or ".ccd" ???)

@LoRd_MuldEr

Of course an Image file can contain any type data.

Technically correct, of course, but the question is posted specifically regarding "Audio Encoding" - which is what I addressed...

Year sure. Just wanted to make clear to this guy that not any type of *.nrg neccessarily contains audio. Furthermore I'm not sure if VLC can play that, if the image contains a data disc with - let's say - .aac files or stuff. Never tried this...

And there's another probelm: With that *.img image, we usually need a control file like *.cue or *.ccd or alike...
