free dvd player/codecs

hello guys
I found on the net, some free dvd codecs.... and using with media player classic it works great...
Problem is in some dvd I can't hear nothing.... I assume it must be related to codecs.... maybe free can't open all files...
but i would be great to not use commercial files

Last time I checked Media Player Classic didn't need external codecs to decode DVDs. Unless you disable its internal handling in the "Filters" options. Maybe you should simple uninstall these codecs and let Media Player Classic handle everything?

Ok i did remove them but still can't hear anything from some dvd (don't why it works with some and don't work with others !)

The default audiostream of the silent DVDs may be a DTS stream. Try selecting a different audiostream from the menu...

It should work even if the audio is DTS. With some effot I've found a DVD with DTS sound and MPC internal DTS decoder did work (unless it was lying and using AC3). Check in "Options->Filters->Audio Decoders" if MPC is not set to send DTS directly to S/PIF, which could explain the silence in the speakers.

I did got silence from DTS using the OEM versions of Power DVD and Win DVD though.

ok thanks for the replies...
1) There is only 1 audio stream in those dvd i can't hear ...
2) Mpc (or pcm) is sent to "direct to speackers and not DTS.
straneg thing is Power dvd or Intervideo can read perfectly the same dvd i can't with medial player classic...

There's nothing strange about different software having differing capabilities - especially commercial versus freeware...

If you just need a free DVD player try mplayer. It's fast and plays any DVD I've tried (although DTS audio didn't work here).

Note: I wouldn't recommend celticdruid builds for playing/ripping DVDs because in my experience they have some problems (huge lag) when recognizing the DVD.
