View Full Version : Small feature request

Just a little thing that I've thought would be handy for a long time.

Option: Delete agk_tmp dir after encode.

Sometimes the temp dir is handy. But otherwise, I find it makes it harder for me to encode multiple episodes of series on a single partition, as I have limited space to work with (Need to upgrade, need money). When I'm at the computer, I delete the temp dir right off. But when I have to leave it unattended, I fear returning to "Not enough disk space" and a failed encode.

If it's already in one of the later versions, my apologies. I haven't gotten around to updating my version on my main box yet. Is Win98se still supported?

Cheers

What you can do instead is to put all your output files in one dir. Then when next encode starts it will delete agk_tmp first and you always will be left with temp files only from last encode. (that's what I do :) )

I also put all my output files into the same directory, however I wonder if it would be possible to make the files contained within the tmp dir have unique names. I use two computers to transcode batches (one local disk, one network mount) and they don't like to share the same tmp dir. I did notice that alot of the files do have unique names, but some don't.

Is this a limitation of support software looking for default filenames during the batch encode? This would be a handy feature if its easy to overcome.

Thanks.

While it should be possible to do, at the moment AutoGK cleans up tmp dir and uses quite a bit of files with the same names for different jobs, so I don't time to modify all that and restest before stable release (it would just push it back 2-3 weeks...)

I never think of the simple workarounds :P
Cheers len0x, I'll try to remember to do that :)

A feature request from me too

1. DGIndex don't close itself (after job is done) if i manually stop it and set range of encoding. Can it be fixed?
2. It would be great if we have an ability to type filenames in "Output File" field.

I don't understand (1)...

hmm... so - step be step:

In normal state AGK works in that way:
1. I click "start"
2. DCIndex begin to work
3. DGIndex finishes its work
4. DGIndex is closed
5. AutoGK begins to work further

But when i want to change the range of engoding, for example - i want to encode only half of video file, AGK works next way:
1. I click "start"
2. DCIndex begin to work
3. I recall DGIndex from panel to normal window
4. I press "Esc"
5. I press "Left" or "Right" (if i don't do this i'm not able to see range selection buttons)
6. I set some part of movie (i set start and end)
7. I press File>Save, and rewrite existing file .d2v
8. DGIndex finishes its work
9. DGIndex is NOT closed
10. AutoGK DOES NOT begin to work further (untill i close DGIndex myself)

This is how it works already (and FAQ Q 6.6 describes exactly that).

I know. I read this. I only say that DGIndex doesn't close itself, i must do it when DGIndex's work is finished.

len0x please read it carefully: "Can it be fixed?" (i wrote it already in this thread)

Its not the job for AutoGK to close external applications...

i see, and can you tell DGIndex's author to make an option of autoclose? Or should i do that? Which way is faster*better?

You can ask Neuron2 in the appropriate forum, but I don't this option is feasable because in the normal operation mode you wouldn't need to autoclose it, in CLI mode it does that already and if in CLI mode mode you press Esc then it goes into normal mode that wouldn't allow you to autoexit (you can't easily distinguish between "normal" mode and "restored normal"). Also not all the users might want to do that, so it would probably have to be optional behaviour as well...

you want to say that if i minimize main window of DGIndex it will be closed as usual(on finishing it's work)?

no, once you pressed Esc you can't go back to CLI mode and have to close it manually.

aha, i see, thanx again len0x
