Hi there!!
I just read the information (very little) at NERO 7 (http://www.nero.com/eng/FAQS_Nero_7_Premium_Upgrade.html#1). First of all, I have to say that I feel very diassapointed about this:

3. I recently bought Nero 6. Am I eligible for a discount on Nero 7 Premium?

Customers who have purchased a full version (not an OEM version) of Nero 6 between September 1, 2005 and November 30, 2005 for the regular price will receive a free upgrade serial number for Nero 7 Premium.*

Customers who have purchased a full version (not an OEM version) of Nero 6 before September 1st 2005 for the regular price can receive a discount offer for a Nero 7 Premium purchase.*

* Further information and instruction on how to go about receiving your free upgrade serial number will be provided when Nero 7 Premium is available. Please check back.

I got my full version of Nero 6 almost 2 years ago... and now...
Well, whatever.
Please... share more information about this new version of NERO. Comments are welcome.
Greetings!

Nero 7 has been released in the pirate scene for some time now.

I don't know anything about it. The Nero website is not informative. My guess is that its nothing to brag about.

Nero 7 has been released in the p....te scene for some time now. Actually what was posted was the ke..gen. What is funny is it was available well before the actual program even shipped. That must have been demoralizing.

What's to feel "disappointed" about? It's not like you're working with a software that you're forced to use for any purpose, nor are you forced to upgrade. It's unreasonable for you to expect a company to continue developing and improving a product and keep giving away free or discounted upgrades for life. It would be like buying clothes and expecting the manufacturer to replace them whenever they fall out of style - they still wear fine, don't they?

I think clothes are a bad analogy. "Style" doesn't apply to software. Distributing software updates cost practically nothing. We already rightfully expect bug-fix updates. And, if we by something stylish, we have a reasonable clue of how long the style will last. But, with software, a major upgrade might come in a month, in two years, or never. One more thing, it's standard industry practice to give recent software buyers new versions when they come out (if the software was downloaded to start with), an assumed warrenty to not have dated software right away.

And, on the chance I bought some clothes today that was cool, if tomorrow it was dorky, I'd be disappointed even if I didn't expect to recieve a cool replacement.

Nero is giving free v7 upgrades to recent v6 buyers, as would be expected. The problem here is that our friend Castellanos bought his copy two years ago.

BTW, to windtrader, I really hate to see anything released/leaked before the official product. It's just so rude. But, I was sort of hoping that one of these rude people could address my curiosity about what's new in v7.

its funny how this sort of things comes up from time to time.

if you bought a piece of software 2 years ago you have had 2 years worth of free updates, and Nero has had plenty of updates in that time. you should be pretty happy with that.

if you bought the software 2 months ago then i could understand feeling a little miffed.

I was referencing "style" in its similarity to "version" - clothing that is out of style is still wearable (assuming it's not worn out), just as many programs which have a newer version available are still perfectly usable. You don't have to have the newest version of Nero in order to burn a CD or DVD, as long as the current version contains what you need.

Try http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/12363, including a link to a German-language preview at http://www.winfuture.de/news,22134.html ...

And there was even a news item on doom9 on Sept. 3: Speaking of Nero, they will release Nero 7 on the 10th of October. The new version includes an application to create 5.1 and even 7.1 soundtracks, and the premium release should be able to burn HD DVD and Blu-Ray discs. There is no confirmation yet that the new release will include ateme's MPEG-4 AVC high profile encoder.
Let's just wait and see ...

Well... thanks for the replies. ;)
There are many software around where you get a long-life free upgrades if you got a full version... and this is not tha case. If somebody got the full version of Nero 6, as I did, where is the difference to got it 2 years ago or 1 month ago?
I don't mind if somebody got NERO 3 and want to upgrade it for free... it may be reasonable to pay something (I do not agree even that).

Why would they not include Ateme's high profile encoder...thats the reason I bought the full retail Nero.

Can't say I'am too bothered myself. I'd had Nero for what seems like forever and all I use it for these days is burning disks. However there are no such things as "Free Updates". When you purchase a software product you are also buying the support and future updates unless the developer states otherwise. In fact they usually make a point of offering this as an encentive to buy. However I would agree that for the cost of Nero 6, over a few years we got pretty good value for money and its not as if the product its of a sudden useless.

Can you name any? We're not talking about product updates, but a free full version upgrade for life.

Just to name two programs which are good related to this forum: AnyDVD and DVD Region+CSS Free (as well as the other products like Clone CD, Clone DVD, DVDidle, DVDFab... etc) have long-life updates/upgrades... To say one example, I remember that DVD Region+CSS Free, once, changed the password structure of the new versions (Just against piracy) and the owners have to send some information to get a new one... "for free".
I other cases, and more expensive programs: Magix Samplitude offers free upgrades for their customers...
And there are many examples more!

wow, who likes to nitpick ? a free update is one you do not pay for at its release. that is you pay no more than the initial buying price and any upgrades to that version cost no more. that IS called free updates.

And there are many examples more!
yes and i am sure we could also name plenty of others that you do have to pay for a major version change. just because company A does things 1 way doesnt mean company B has to aswell. Nero(formaly Ahead) have always done it this way, if you dont like it then buy a different burning program that does give you lifetime free upgrades. sorry but complaining after having 2 years of updates gets no sympathy from me when thats the way it always has been.

I am not looking for your sympathy... and I think no one does.
What I said was just a comment, some agree on that, some not... and does it.
I believe when you pay for a program, you pay also further developement... I don't say: "It must be" for a lifetime... I say: "there are some others..." Whatever NERO (Ahead) or you, like it or not.
I do not say that I would like to jump from NERO 3 to NERO 7 for free, I am a owner of NERO 6... and a person who buy NERO 6 just now (almost same version as mine) has the possiblity to upgrade for free to 7, I do not.

For the sake of clarity, I'll simply state that most posts in this thread seem to indicate that "upDATES" are the same as "upGRADES". This is not the case.

"upDates" are usually limited to bugfixes, while "upGRADES" are major additions/improvements/enhancements to the software.

In the case of NERO, there have been 16 FREE "upDATES" to v.6 - and something like 54 to v.5. NERO (Formerly Ahead) has never provided free "upGRADES" (Other than to VERY recent purchasers of the then-present version).

On the other hand, as an example, DVD95Copy offers lifetime free "upGRADES"...

Hello, about Nero 7 Premium:
Which AAC codec version? has ParametricStereo "PS" (AAC+V2 = AAC_HE+PS)?
is better than "enc_aacplus.dll" winamp5.1 encoder (~Codec Technologies)?
I saw in the net: aacenc32.dll v3.2.0.18, is from Nero7P?
Bye

Hello guada2,
I visited rarewares.org (I did know the place :) ), and download "Nero Frontends 2005-08-29 aacenc32.exe (v0.79.056)", allows to use de Nero AAC dlls to encode AC3 without NERO interface. This is a new version from an old one that i already had, this is good, but not the answer, about the version of the AAC encoder at last Nero, and if got PS :(
Thanks, Bye

Hello Raziel6969,

With regard to the format AAC, I cannot anything affirmed because I don't have make test.
However, this "new" version knew some improvements:
For example, the MiniDVD mode photo slide show doesn't pose problem anymore in its personalized version. However its bitrate was lowered by 1715 kbps but the quality is better: luminous and fluid.
But this software claims more resource....

See you soon

Hi Raziel6969!
I don't know the new plugins for Nero 7, but if you got the previous ones, you have at least two aac encoders: "FAAC" and "PsyTEL"... I think what I saw was the 1.0.0.26 version... kind of old.
Greetings! :)
