Hi there,

I don't know if it here is the right section, but didn't know where else to post this question.

I have this file BigAd (http://www.bigad.com.au/viv/3787_bigAd_730.viv). On the Site (http://www.bigad.com.au/) it is played via a java applet. I did some research and found out that .viv is Vivo an old RealMedia codec H.263 but the RealAlternative didn't want to play this file. I tried VLC too but didn't work either. After some more searching I found out that the company which wrote the applet is Vividas and they seem to use ON2 VP6 or 7 but I couldn't get it to work.

So please if anyone knows how I could play it without this plugin (except screen capturing) tell me.

I don't know if this makes a difference but, I believe the specific codec is "VIVO H.263 Video Codec Version 2.00"...

I don't think its the old real stuff, its a format used by Vividas and I would guess its a windows media file in a protective wrapper.

Universal is showing the first 9 minuttes of Serenity for free, here Its also in this "viv" format (http://video.vividas.com/CDN1/3929_Serenity/web/index.html)

(Edited to add: It sure ain't windows media :helpful: )

Well, know we know what it is: "Vividas Licenses TrueMotion VP7 for Mass Distribution of High Quality Video" Press info (http://www.on2.com/technology/on2-difference/)

Other people who have licensed it are Macromedia for Flash 8 video, Xm for sattelite radio, Intel, Texas Instruments, Sony, America Online, AbcNews even BBC news.

So presumably this will soon be all over the web, and when it has someone is bound to get interested :)

On2, has a free encoder, a free directo show codec for their standard version here (http://www.on2.com/downloads/) -

BUT of course it doesn't work on the Vividas files, either something has been tweaked or it is wrapped in something evil.

But its one step closer :)

Naa, People don't care yet.

Perhaps you should start bugging the Linux community? They seem to take everything apart and put it back together for Linux ;)
