This didn't quite fit in the NLE (since that would be overkill). I just want to cut up all the DVD files on my hard drives, and just cut my favorite scenes with a simple and fast editor. Frame by frame accurrecy is not required, and ideally no fussing (and time spent) demuxing and remuxing or setting delays.
The key that I want everything done fast (lots and lots of dvds to edit down). I'm not sure yet if I want to split the dvds up by scenes or not.
The source video is usually video based (not hollywood movies).

Vidomi works really well as an editor - for cropping VOBs it can only edit one scene at a time, but those scenes can be re-loaded into Vidomi and strung together as one video. Under General options just check "Ignore all settings and use MPEG copy code," and it will not re-render the video, only save your selection in a new file.

DVD Shrink will do it as well-you can select individual scene (even if it is spread over chapters),individual chapter or sequence of chapters.

I haven't tried the DVDshrink method yet, although I am a bit skeptical this will work for me, I just want to store the edited vobs as files, I don't want to burn to DVD (maybe in the future)
Right now it seems the way to go is to
1)merge the vob set into one huge file (I'm pretty sure this can be done without syncing problems)
2)then de-muxing into m1v elementry files or standard mpeg2 (not sure the technical differences)
3)load m1v or mpeg into editor program (either cuttermaran or a NLE)
4)edit and save files
5)re-mux back into vob (optional)
I was hoping that there was a editor smart enough handle vobs and also load vobs as a set. Am I asking too much?
