Is there players or do most players support multiple divx or xvid on a DVD+R in folders????
I was looking at http://www.divxtest.com/results.php3 and wondering if their test "divx on DVDR" was a representation of this..??
This would be great for me so I could start to storage my divx on dvdr's instead...

Hi!
The Philips DVP 642 (approximately $60US, currently) is one that does support multiple .AVIs on a DVD+R ( and DVD-R for that matter)...
Why would you want to put them in folders?

Kiss, Pioneer, Targa, LG all cope with multiple files in a directory. Also they read DVD+R depending on the model you buy.

I can confirm only with the SAP I use: the H&B 3220 (french market) and it's successor the H&B 3255: DVD and avi's and mp3 and jpeg; +/-R media are accepted.
I usually use the root directory for 4 (1110 MB) to 6 (740MB) movies Xvid or Divx. I used to manually cut the concert avis by song in a separate directory. I now use the dvd format keeping the menus to access the songs separately: easier and possibility to keep 5.1Dts instead of 5.1Dolby
There seems to be aging problems more accute with .avis than dvd structures on dvd-/+R. I have not enough experience to be affirmative; here are the tips I use:
1/Use good DVD-/+R brands, not nonames or subbrands
2/Don't write to the max capability of the disc, I usually leave 36 to 42MB empty on a Dvd-R: 4482-(1110*4)=42Mb
3/I now split big files (over 1Gb) by 700Mb chunks: 1110= 700+410 2 chunks named xxx_1.avi xxx_2.avi etc., or Vdubmod does it for me _00.avi _01.avi etc... to be under 1Go file size
4/ Files over 2gb does not start you must split them.
+ usual caution with the media: no fingers, no sweat or liquid, no grease, no freesby-ing etc... ;)

Because it's totally unnecessary and of no additional benefit (and requires more interaction) for playback on a standalone DVD player...

.... it might be benifical depending on what your doing and thus sometimes I find it a useful feature and so does fedge by the sounds of it.

mp3 tracks in album folders
episodes in seperate folders of Tv series
jpegs seperate from other stuff
(specially jpegs, not having to render these can possibly speed up menu operations)
Album art n stuff ...
4.3 gb (thats all my music!) of even hi-quality MP3's is very difficult to navigate about 30-40cds @ 256-320...

@Wolfman
Hi!
My question is specifically regarding the thread initiator's premise of "multiple divx or xvid on a DVD+R in folders."
Since there is a REALISTIC maximum capacity of 6-8 full length videos on one burned DVD, there's nothing to be gained regarding navigation by placing them in folders...

incorrect....
Anime episodes.. I can fit about 30+ of them (decent quality) on one dvd
That would make it easier to Not have to scroll as much
But i think this topic is closed

Are u sure?
I have a DVP630 with last firmware (I believe DVP642 has in fact the same hardware) and it doesn't support correctly multiple .AVIs on DVD. I mean.. it will play the AVIs but with restrictions -> subtitles will not work, and it will more time than "normal" to recognize the DVD. After asking Philips technical support they told me that officially this DVD doesn't support .AVIs on DVD but only on CD
I have also a Philips DVP5100 and this one supports AVIs on DVD without a problem (subtitles are supported and loading time is the same as with CDs)

Hi all.
I have Waitec Vision HTX, and it can read everything in the same way you can navigate folders with IE. The only thing I have to check is that subtitles and alternative audio tracks must be in the same folder and have tha same filename of the .AVI file.
For the +R format I've noted that is better to leave a few free space on the dvd, otherwise the player needs more time to recognize the support..
Bye.

@dbt
Are u sure?
Yes...
(I presently have approximately 40 DVDs containing approximately 200 full length movies as backups to some of my original DVDs)
