What's happening when "log quant matrices" outputs's a file with multiple matrices?

there can be multiple matrices in a file. some encoders support matrix switching.. also this can happen due to editing. if you are using the matrix in your newly encoded file you will have to choose the dominant matrix.. in my use .. i scan a certain amount of the movie and use the last matrix. (just in case the company logos use a different matrix, i'll more than likely get the main movie matrix.)

Yes, Trahald is correct. The stream is sending new matrices at various points to optimally encode different scene types.
