What are the display rules with forced subs?

I'm in R4 and forced subs are a bit of a rarity here in my experience - specific "titling" streams appear to be the norm.

Anyway, I'm asking about the rules on the display of forced subs, in an environment when one is using SUPs in MuxMan (movie only), without the use of precommands and no subtitles have been selected by the viewer.

Firstly, if only one stream is included, will the forced subs be displayed regardless of the language setting in the dvd player?

Secondly, if multiple streams have forced subs, then what is displayed? Is it the stream associated with the dvd player language setting or nothing, if no corresponding stream exists?

While it would be useful info, I suppose I don't really need to know. But anal retentiveness can be an overpowering emotion at times. I'm feeling certain urges right now even, maybe I will run a simple test anyway (very non definitive, obviously).

I think (yes, just my opinion) the answers to your questions is not part of the DVD standard. So the result is really depends on how the firmware of your player is written. In other words, different player may behave differently.
