Hi, every one !

some info:
source : Ready Steady Go
format : mp3
bitrate : 44.1Khz / 192kbps
type : stereo (Left + Right)
Target : Ready Steady Go.dts
Application : SoundForge 8, SurCode Pro dts

I am a movie OST fever so I have a lot of movie soundtrack in mp3 stereo format. Let said I want to create a 5.1 dts file, so i done this :

Steps :

1. Convert Ready Steady Go.mp3 into Ready Steady Go.Wav. So, I got 2 channel sound in a SINGLE file.

2. Prepare the Left(mono.wav) and Rear Right(mono.wav) as a materials to do dts encoding later BY extract the 2 channel wave sound to LEFT(mono.wav) and RIGHT(mono.wav).

3. Prepare the Rear Left(mono.wav) and Rear Right(mono.wav) as a materials to do encoding dts later BY modifying the 2 channel sound LEFT & RIGHT in step 1 accordingly.

4 Prepare the Center(mono.wav) as a materials to do encoding dts later By Mix the LEFT(mono).wav WITH RIGHT(mono).wav.

5. Prepare the LFE(mono.wav) By modifying the Center(mono.wav) into Bass Effect.

6. Ha Ha.... Now I get LEFT, RIGHT, Left Rear, Right Rear, Center and LFE in a mono.wav format.

7. I do the encoding BY using SurCode Pro dts and OUtput get Ready Steady Go.dts. End !!!

(Modifying mean I do some filter or effect to make the sound more soft or add Bass for Rear or LFE)

Questions :

1. This is my understanding (teoreticaly) in order to create a 5.1 channel sound. Am I stupid ? I mean I do the encoding like this even knew that source file in mp3 format, the quality are just disadvantage compare to wave format!!!

2. Any One can TEACH, RECOMMEND, or give Refferences How create a 5.1 AC3 or DTS music ?

Thanks !!!

sorry I didnīt understand question number one?

but generally decoding lossy material to another lossy format leads to loss

I also have questions on your method

1. how long did it take to make one track?
2. are there any spatial effects in your result?

having a DTS file at the end doesnīt guaranty a good sounding result -> itīs like a good road doesnt guaranty a good ride (remember the car ... ;) )

2. Any One can TEACH, RECOMMEND, or give Refferences How create a 5.1 AC3 or DTS music ?

letīs talk about the car: there are many recommendations (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=83752) in the sticky or take a look on needfulthings (http://www.needfulthings.webhop.org) - I personaly would recommond all VST based solutions because the creation of the files are very fast and there are many options to tune the result to your personal taste :o
