View Full Version : DVD Rebuilder ISO problem with 32k padding

Using version 2.2.6.17 of Nero Recode (the latest) I can't open a virtual drive mounted ISO created by DVD-RB Pro. v1.00 RC5.1. (had the problem with the version of Recode before this also).

Ripped with DVDD to HD.
Used DVD-RB Pro. movie only mode, HC encoder, Mpeg standard matrix,(used BDVD then AVAMAT6 matrix first then went back to Mpeg standard, made no difference) DC 10, 64 bit floating point, default GOP.

I can open the mounted ISO in Shrink, no problem, with 32k padding enabled BTW

However, with Recode I get a "Failed to open the file VIDEO_TS.IFO." with the 32k padding enabled.

The resulting DVD burned with DVDD, which Recode will not open, plays fine on my standalone BTW. Eventhough it plays fine, I still cannot open the DVD with Recode.

After I disable the 32k padding, and recreate the ISO sans the 32k pad then everything is O.K., Recode opens the ISO.

Why is a DVD-RB 32k pad ISO not being opened by Recode but is being opened with Shrink? Why is this happening? Just for my information, I would like to know.

Not a big deal though just thought someone might want to know if they encounter the problem.
I just use Recode to double check the approx. Bitrate.... I know, I know, that is what Bitrate Viewer is for....just trying to keep the app's down on the laptop. :D

Regards,:)

P.S. CloneDVD2 slysoft version will not open the 32k padded ISO either.

Sounds more like a problem with Recode. Clearly if the DVD plays, it is finding the titlesets' starting sectors which are defined in VIDEO_TS.IFO

from what i recall the 32k thing has troubled some standalones....really is not all that important anyway...i never worry about it becuase of some of the issues raised here as to end playability. ...32k is not a biggee

There have been no problems reported with standalones that I know of. The only reported problem was in mounting with AnyDVD. I'm confident the implementation of 32k padding is compliant -- but I'm also sure there is software out there that doesn't know that...

And that would be why Recode does not work with the RB ISO, it doesn't know that...

It must be compliant as the DVD works in my standalone which is after all what I was shooting for all along.

One would assume that since the author of Shrink and Nero Recode are one in the same, that Recode would work with the 32k padding since it works in DVD Shrink.
However, as my sig indicates...don't assume anything.
hmmm! I think blutach might be right...the problem is with the other guys software, I mean it's not like Nero has not had some buggy or problematic software before.
Maybe I will email the Ahead/Nero Engineers and let them know so they can change Recode so it will work with DVD-RB (give them my 2 cents) I mean Recode should at least be as compatible as DVD Shrink don't you think!

On the other hand you could set the flag in DVD-RB to "Disable 32k Padding" when you are planning to use it with that software. The only time the padding will ever make a difference would be in the extremely rare instance that:

1. There isn't already 32k between the IFO and BUP files (no VOB files or only one VOB file that has less than 32k length).
2. A disc has been damaged
3. The damage just happens to affect the IFO but not the BUP.

The liklihood is very remote.

I added this option for one reason only: To satisfy those who would otherwise complain. I personally leave it off.

Well if the author leaves it off I see no reason for me to leave it on.
Thanks for that insight jdobbs!

I don't recall, does 32k padding come enabled on install or not?
Nevermind, I wouldn't have had to disable it if it was not enabled on install. :D

Best Regards,:)

@jdobbs...I thought you mentioned before a sony player had issues with the 32k thingNot that I can recall... there have been issues with Sony in the past, but I don't think they were related to this.
